REED (Quincy Herald-Whig,22 Oct 1929,pg.18;QcyPubLib), age 90, a Civil War veteran, died suddenly in his son John W. REED's residence at 2448 Broadway street, Tuesday (22 Oct 1929) at 5:00. He was born in Kentucky, 23 Apr 1839. Most of his life was spent in central Illinois and in Kansas where he farmed. He had lived in the Illinois Soldiers and Sailors (now Veterans) Home in Quincy for awhile. Previous to coming to Quincy, he lived in Nickerson, Kansas. He volunteered and re-enlisted in the Illinois 7th Calvary and served four years and three months during the war. In 1858 he married Rebecca Jane BARBER of Galesburg, Illinois. Mrs REED died in 1909 and was buried in Nickerson where the body of Mr. REED will buried after the services Thursday (24 Oct 1929). He was a member of the Vermont Street M.E. church. Survivors are sons John W. and L.C. REED, both of Quincy, Fred G. REED of Houston, Texas; a daughter Mrs. M.W. HOFFMAN of Jackson, Michigan; eight grand! children and two great-grandchildren.
