Lucy, I am sorry, I do not have any other Hewitt names except that of my grandfather, James Oliver Hewitt, born Jan 1856 9n Illinois. Only recently have I found him in the 1880 census in Adams Co. Il. I have an old photo when he was 6 months old (no photographer name on photo) with his parents and another child which I perceive is a boy about 3 or 4 years older than he. Because he was listed as a nephew living in the Lewis Coder home, and because Lewis Coder married a Chapman and Oliver Perry Hewitt married a Chapman it is possible that these families are connected with my James Oliver Hewitt who was an orphan at an early age. It is not a lot of information but a genealogical problem that surfaced 30 years ago . To complicate my search for James Hewitt, his marriage in Kansas resulted in the fact that he became my grandfather who deserted his family in 1892 and was never reunited with them. I spent 3 days this past week in the town in Kansas where I searched the courthouse and learned more about his reasons for leaving but no knowledge of where he went. Can you or anyone else help me??? Margaret
I worked with an elderly lady, who never married with the last name Hewitt, many years ago. She and her family was from Carthage, Hancock Co., IL. I can't remember if this was the way she spelled her last named but would assume so. Her name was Percy. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret Christensen" <mardarch@fmctc.com> To: <ILADAMS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, 13 October, 2002 11:53 AM Subject: [ILADAMS] Hewitt > Lucy, > > I am sorry, I do not have any other Hewitt names except that of my grandfather, James Oliver Hewitt, born Jan 1856 9n Illinois.
