His name is Harry Edward Demoss and he says he was born in Adams County, IL in 1872. This was on one of his children's birth certificates that I have a copy of. He died in 1930 in Louisiana. I am searching for his parents. He married a girl who was 20 years younger than him...he got her out of a girl's orphanage in St. Louis when she was 19 years old. They ended up living in Hannibal, MO and also in Warrenton, MO, where most of their children were born. They ended up in Cass Cty, TX. He supposedly had Native American blood... his daughter said "Harry's daddy was a Frenchman and his mother was an Indian." Does this Demoss ring any bells at all? He often put South Dakota as his place of birth and his descendants think he was a Lakota Sioux on the Rose Bud Reservation there. However, I believe he was born in Adams County IL. He also supposedly had another wife & family when he married the orphan girl. Sometime during his life, he changed his name to Devance. If you can shed any light on this Demoss fellow, I would be eternally grateful. breezer73@mchsi.com Pat Adkison
