    1. [ILADAMS] GERMAN SURNAMES IN QUINCY - REFERENCE BELOW SUBMISSIONS

    3. Hello, Seekers! For those of you looking for surnames, especially in Quincy, IL, suggest you Search Engine to an on-line telephone directory - see of the surnames are not still present in the area. I'm sure there are STEINKAMPs and RUPPs in Quincy. Seems like they continue to run businesses in town. I visit there very infrequently and seem to remember hearing those names in a conversation. For those of you who don't know, Quincy is a very old 'river town' [on the Mississippi and was originally settled by German immigrants. At one time, only German surnames were found in the South of Town; others lived in the North of Town. There is a Historical Society in Quincy; also, a pretty good genealogy room in the public library [it is practically brand new with all the bells & whistles]. Check for addresses - write a letter of enquiry to the person(s), always stating your reason 'up front' for writing. It also helps to enclose a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) for a response. Check also for Email addresses for those name in an Email Directory. Then send whomever msgs. Also - check out the www.usgenweb.com for Illinois - go to Adams Co. [easily searchable]. There is a link to "Old (or original) German Settlers. There are also 'how-to' addresses for facilities you can send a letter of enquiry to about the surnames. Good Hunting - Good Luck! 3. http://www.archive.quincylibrary.org/Archive/skins/QPL/navigator.asp?BP=OK&GZ=T&AW=1092320422515 There are about 300 articles in the on-line Quincy newspaper from the 1800s about the Steinkamp's. Bernard Steinkamp was evidently very active in politics. Use the above link, do a word search, type in Steinkamp, search all publications, search entire archive period, the press "go" next to the search all publications. bobert <[email protected]> wrote: Hello, Seekers!
