He may have been killed by Indians on the Santa Fe Trail in the 1870's. He is listed on the Taos, New Mexico US Census in 1860 living with a Rumalda Maes. He possibly has an aka of William Julian Smith, Julian Smithor William Smith. His daughter Felista Smith married my great grandfather. Any help would greatly appreciated.
