My friend Lester Holtschalg translated the book. The book was originally written in German by Theodore Bruener, who was born in Recklinghausen in the Diocese of Muenster. Rev. Bruener was ordained in Muenster, and taught in Gescher. In 1867 he emigrated from Wadersloh. He came to Quincy in late 186, and basically founded St. Mary's Church. The book is available at the Quincy Public Library. The work has a full name index with over 2,000 names. Father Bruener sources were mainly primary. He talked to the people of Quincy who lived its history.
