She was 15 years old and the only daughter of the late Cornelius and Mary Schermerhorn. Mr. Schermerhorn was for years in charge of a restaurant here. There are left to mourn her untimely death, the widowed mother and one brother, also a number of other relatives who live in Chicago. The family home was for many years in Quincy and there are many friends here who will sympathize deeply with them in their loss. Source: The Quincy Daily Journal, Wed. Nov. 27, 1918 IS DEAD IN TEXAS Earl Schermerhorn, son of Mrs. G. H. Brink, passed away Saturday. Earl Schermerhorn, aged 11 years, son of Mrs. G. H. Brink, died at the home of the family near Herford, Texas, Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, according to a telegram received by J. H. VandenBoom, on whose farm the family lived. Besides the mother, the child is survived by a sister, Mary aged 14 years, and a brother, Edwin Schermerhorn, aged 18 years, of Chicago, and the step-father. Arrangements will be made for the funeral in Quicy as soon as the brother arrives from Chicago. The family is well known in Quincy, as this was their home until several years ago. Schermerhorn married Isabel F. Miller Jan 28, 1858 by Jas. R. Manton MG Marriages of Adams County, IL 1825-1860 I would say Edwin is buried next Isabel F. his grandmother in Woodland Cemetery. The dates fit. I only have Vol. I of Woodland right now, so I cant say for sure if there are more buried there. But there are a few Schermerhorn in the marriage books. Would help to know family plot order. This Isabella Schermerhorn may be Edwin's grandmother. Isabella F. Miller, wife of John Schermerhorn were the parent's of Cornelius Schermerhorn. Cornelius was father of Edwin Lawrence Schermerhorn, Earl Schermerhorn and Mary A. Schermerhorn. When Cornelius died his mother, Isabella was living in Chicago (where some of Cornelius' brothers ect lived) . She was still there on the 1920 Cook Co census. There is a death record in Chicago Cook IL for Isabella F Schermerhorn, died 26 June 1922. Cornelius is buried in Woodland Cemetery. Earl died in Texas and was brought back to Quincy for burial, don't know if Earl is buried Woodland or not ( the old paper did not list place of burial for Earl) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You may be looking for a divorce record that does not exist. Gentleman died 2 Aug 1923. On 1930 Herbert is listed as divorced, but Mildred is listed as widow. Yeah, I know it list her as 'Camren' but keep in mind woman were not real liberated back then and likely she did not 'reclaim' her maiden name. Chances are whoever answered the door did not clarify much more than my sister or daughter Mildred who is a widow. Check the death record might list whether Edwin was still married and his place of burial. Just a thought. Saw you found Edwin and Mildred's marriage record. Nice work.
