    1. Re: [ILADAMS] Cemetery index help please
    2. Margie Hinton
    3. Thanks so much Debbie. My sister and I spent a few days in Quincy right after the 9-11 attack doing some research and we both fell in love with Quincy and the wonderful, friendly people we met there. We bought marriage certificates, etc. for Cobb and Deming (2 marriages each - grin) - but did NOT know that Oliver returned to Adams County. I did not follow rule number 1 in genealogy - never assume. Had I known then what I know now, I would have found more of my family. While in Quincy, I met Carolyn Altenhein, the genealogy society's librarian and she helped us very much. She also sent me some information including obituaries which I only recently discovered were for descendants of Rufus and his son, Oliver. (Dummy me!) A few weeks ago I was contacted by another Deming descendant of Rufus Deming (William, the brother of Oliver and my g-g grandmother, Esther) who was eleven days old when Rufus moved from Belmont County, Ohio - he was left behind as an infant and was told that Rufus was killed by indians out west - not true of course. But then, an eleven day old infant whose mother had just died would have needed a nursing woman to care for him - no formula or bottles then. Since than, we are unraveling that line of the family. This is what I have gathered so far - edited a bit - and some probably needs more 'tweaking' I would guess: Descendants of Rufus Curtis Deming (DAMON) ? Generation No. 1 1. Rufus Curtis Deming7 (DAMON) (Eells6 Dammon, Zachariah5 Damon, Zachariah4, Zachariah3, John2, John (or more probably - Richard)1) was born 14 Jul 1792 in Scituate-Hanover, Plymouth Co, MA, and died 30 Apr 1880 in San Luis Obispo, San Louis Obispo County, California. Ellington TWP, Quincy, Adams Co, Illinois Any help in pointing me in the direction where I can find these relatives will be greatfully appreciated. I believe that there might still be some of Rufus's descendants living in Adams County and I am hoping to make contact with them. Rufus and Mary (Farra) Deming had four children in Belmont County, Ohio. Their daughter, Esther (Deming) married John Cobb in Quincy - moved to California in 1850. Rufus followed them a few years later. It is possible that Rufus' son, Oliver may have returned to Quincy after living in Missouri and Wisconsin (near his brother Joseph?) and that some of his descendants remain in Adams County today. Thank you so much. Margie Hinton in California
