    3. Don, Thanks for your reply. While I have been in pursuit of Cyrus Smith for over 30 years - I just recently found out who his mother was (we think). So the Rankin connection is still pretty weak for me. We visited the Mendon and surrounding areas in June and saw the graves of a number of ancesters. We also located their old farm land and tried to trace down more information. The Great River Genealogy Society is a big help - they are located in the Quincy Public Library - Quincy, IL. Good luck in your searching. I don't have any of your surnames in my family (yet). 3. I'm sorry - I have no information on your request re: Cyrus Smith. I noticed your mention of Sophronia Rankin Smith - one of my great grandfathers was Rankin D. Smith who would have been born around 1871 and lived in or around Loraine, Adams County, Illinois. My grandmother was Mary Ann Smith Littleton. You mention Mendon which is about 8 miles from Loraine. I am fairly new to the genealogy scene and have not been working in this area of my family. I have been working on the Riddle, Littleton and Hill families. I am sure it is a solid achievement and a welcome and long overdue improvement. Congratulations!!! I also am pleased with your offer to share it with me. I will use it and treasure it. I must regretfully decline your invitation to collaborate again. We made a decent try many decades ago and it did not work out very well for either of us. I am now aboout 80. My health and energy level are poor. My writing block has worsened with aging.. Continue on with your work by all means, including making it more available to others. I will send information from time to time. For the GenWeb audience: There is no better source on McCargar history than Dennis, whose address is posted on this board....Sometimes the collaboratve efforts of two well-intentioned people do not work out. Sad, certainly, but real life. Aging also is a fact of life. My sixty odd years of experience with McCargar history, admittedly limited, is at your disposal. Regards, Robert S. I'm interested in info on Tyrus and Mary (Brown/Knapp) McCargar, however, my primary interest is in Mary's son from her first marriage, John Davis Knapp, Jr. He was my gg-grandmother's nephew. I'm hoping to track down my ggg-grandparents and am looking for any clues I can find. I'd received a response to a post from John Jr's gdaughter, but I don't think she was actually "into" genealogy and never responded to me 2nd email - she was being very cautious. I'm hoping you may have some leads as to the Knapp side of my family. Again, thanks for answering. mdrgr@pacbell.net
