I missed the first part of this discussion, but I, too have people buried in Pleasant View Cem. - CASTLES. I have not been to the Cemetery but think it is in Camp Point,Illinois. My source, along with a short history, is below: CEMETERIES OF ADAMS COUNTY, Vol V Camp Point & Clayton Townships; Compiled by Great River Genealogical Soc. %Quincy Public Library, Quincy,IL in Oct 1989. Found at the LDS Family History Library, Book # 977.344,V22q, Fiche# 62301, Oct 1989;pp 92;LDS FHL 977.44V.. (can't read from copy-too light, fiche #6126468;NOTE: The Introduction pp gives history of the founding of the Pleasant ViewChurch and its adj Cem. It predates the village of Camp Point by 20 yrs. The 1st Soc of the Christian denomination was founded there in 1835 and a mtg house was soon erected in Section 21 of Clayton twp.Little is know of the first Pleasant View Church, What type of construction or size, whether it burned or was razed to make room for the new one. But in 1873 a new edifice of brick & stone was dedicated. In 1836 were still bands of maurauding Indians still roving the eastern Adams Co landsite. Last services held on a regular basis ceased abt 1908. There seems to be some data missing in this posting. Page 5 ends with Slokum, George and page 6 begins with Watson, Elizabeth. What happened to the T, U, and Vs? Lucy
I would also be interested in records for the Woodland Home for Orphans. sincerely dawn dowling mizzou1@missvalley.com
My grandfather's sister was Sarah Anne (Annie) HUDSON (13 Apr 1880-12 Dec 1962). She married a Hugh Littleton (27 Aug 1873-9 Dec 1935). I visited their graves at Curless Cemetery in the Loraine area last Labor Day. Their young son Glenn (1900-1905) who died in a Christmas tree fire is buried there also. Bud - I do not know the answer to your question. Those two names are not familiar to me. I have not been working my Smith family but have some notes from mother and will take a look at them this weekend. Hugh and Elizabeth (Plackard) Littleton are my gg grandparents. This is really becoming interesting.
