    1. [ILADAMS] Immigration to USA
    2. I have been looking for arrival of Josephine WEHL in the USA for sometime without success. She is not in Germans to America, couldn't find her in New York and felt she must have come via New Orleans as many folks coming to Illinois did. According to their family page in the church in Betra, Hohenzollern, Prussia she left in 1857. She had a younger sister, Veronica, who came at a later date and she's not to be found either. Josephine married Herman HERING in 1860 (found him in New York) so I know she arrived. She didn't come through New Orleans so where did she get off the boat? Any suggestions as to a logical port would be welcome; do others have this problem too? Lets talk about it. Ed Heselton Florida

    2. (Elizabeth Ann Hudson Adair) were among those traveling with them. Elizabeth ("Wife of J.R. ADAIR") died 3 Jun 1898 and is buried near her brother Wm. T. Hudson in Madonna, even the names are getting to me in these different Hudson families. I have a William Thomas Hudson (1856-1920) who married Sarah Minerva Rust at Loraine, Adams Co, Illinois. They are buried at Talequah, Oklahoma. Now, we're even bringing in the Robertson family with them. Bud

    3. Only thing I can suggest is possibly getting ahold of a church to see if there is a baptism record. Adams County doesn't have many birth records/registers before about 1876-1880. 3. Bud, There apparently were several different Hudson families in Adams Co. However, it is the same Robertson family. Nathan & Eliza were my 3rd great grandparents. Now that I have thought about it, I was aware my 2nd great grandmother's (Sarah Ann Robertson Cecil) sister, Martha, married a Hudson also. He was not related to my great grandfather,James J. Hudson, who married Mary Jane Cecil (Sarah A. Robertson Cecil's daughter). When James J. Hudson's parents came to Adams Co.in 1868, his aunt's family (Elizabeth Ann Hudson Adair) were among those traveling with them. Elizabeth ("Wife of J.R. ADAIR") died 3 Jun 1898 and is buried near her brother Wm. T. Hudson in the Gray Cemetery at Coatsburg. Does anyone know anything about the descendents of Elizabeth Hudson Adair? 2. Thanks again, Madonna. Don't know where I got my information, but I show Martha Robertson's parents as Nathan and Eliza Anderson Robertson. Is this the same family as yours? And I have a Mollie Cecil who married Joseph V. Brown in Wolfe County, Kentucky in 1900. Mollie was born in 1882 Wolfe County. And I have a Houston Hudson who married Leona Tuxford in Adams County, Illinois. Seems the Hudsons, Tuxfords, Rusts, and Littletons intermarried quite a bit. Leona Tuxford's brother Edward Grant Tuxford married Emma Rust, sister to my grandfather Charles Henry Rust. Supposedly Emma ran away with another man - left the kids with Edward. Then, he soon abandoned the kids and was last heard of in 1910 in Eldorado, Colorado. Then, never again. Three of his sisters had him declared legally dead in El Reno, Oklahoma in 1929 as they could not find him to settle their parents estate. I believe there were 3 kids and I'm sure they wound up in an Orphanage in Oklahoma City. No one seems to know where Emma went, either. One of the kids was born about 1909 and was named Walter. Thanks again. Please keep in touch. Bud Caudle

    3. Bud, James J. Hudson's parents were William T. and Nancy White Hudson who are buried in the cemetery at Coatsburg. The family was traveling by wagon from Jefferson Co. TN enroute to Shenandoah IA in 1868 when William became ill and died in Adams Co IL. The family never went any farther and a few descendents still remain in Adams/Hancock Counties. I am intrigued by your Robertson connection. My 2nd great grandmother and Mary Jane Cecil Hudson's mother was Sarah A. Robertson Cecil (20 Sep 1835-12 Jan 1912). I am researching the Robertsons and know that Sarah had a younger sister named Martha. I know these county histories often contain incorrect information, but I thought I would post it. "Ahalt Mrs. Louisa, farmer; Sec. 31; P.O. Ursa; born on the place she now lives, Dec. 25, 1837; was married to Rufus F. Ahalt, in 1847. He was born in Maryland, Dec. 4, 1833, and was during life a very enterprising, energetic and valued citizen, and assisted very materially in the advancement and prosperity of the township. He was Democratic in politics and died Jan. 4, 1875. The estate contains 203 acres of land, a great deal of which is in a high state of cultivation, stocked with fruit and valuable. Her father, Clayburn Campbell, served during the Blackhawk War, and assisted very considerably in the early settlement of the county, as he was one of the very first of its settlers. She has seven children, two sons and five daughters; is a member of th Methodist Church." The History of Adams County, Illinois; Chicago; Murray, Williamson & Phelps, 1879. p800 "Simmons, Francis M., farmer; Sec. 6; P.O. Quincy; was born in Morgan county, Ill., in 1832, and moved to this county with his parents in 1833; was married to Miss Mary A. Campbell in 1861. She was born in this county, They have four children, two boys and two girls. His wife's father, Clayburn Campbell, was about the earliest settler in this county, having come while the Indians were still here, and her cousin, Jackson Campbell, was the first child born in Adams county. His father, Enos Simmons, came to Morgan county, from Bullett County, Ky., and from that to this county in 1833, when it was in its infancy. Mr. F.M. Simmons has 118 acres of land, well improved, stocked with fruit, and very valuable. Republican in politics and a member of the Methodist Church."
