But if you really look, his wife must've been dead by 1880 if she is not listed and his status is that of a widow. I didn't look to make sure but I thought it said his marital status was widow. Am I right? Melrose Township is not Sycamore street. But then again, they may have lived in Melrose Township and moved into town later around 1900. Glad I could help. I am digging through my catholic death index's for her now and so far no luck. I still have 2 others to check. I FOUND HER!! Ok, this is what it says and yes she was dead. Addresses in Quincy are 3 and 4 numbers. I carried newspapers there for 3 years as a kid. Back in the old days, in many places, the first block of a street had only 1 or 2 numbers. I don't know if this was true of Quincy. may possibly be 3 numbers too but I don't think there ever was 2. What year are we talking about? Thanks, I believe this was way back in the late 1890's? Or somewhere in that time frame. We have their address as #19 Sycamore in several places. That is why I was wondering what the township would be. Marijean
Another note on Frederick William Menke....(Found in Bornmann's Sketches of Early Germans of Quincy & Adams County, IL) In this book it mentions that Frederick Wm. Menke founded Menke Stoney & Lime in April 1863. This company served Illinois, Iowa and Missouri. It also stated he came to Quincy in 1852 via New Orleans. For some reason (I did not notate why the date is important) I have the date 4/23/1967 or 1969 (unable to decipher if a 7 or a 9) listed by him.
