There is not an offfice on the grounds. I believe the Cemetery is owned by an individual. There is a book at the Quincy Public Library in the Illinois Room that has a listing of burials in Graceland. If you live out of town, I could look up the newspaper on microfilm of that date, to see if I can find an obituary for you.

Thanks so much. While my John Cartwright wasn't among the listed ones who died.there certainly was alot of very interesting info about the epidemic itself and more people listed than I have seen anywhere else. THey have added part of Adams Co. to the census images at Ancestry. There is now more than just Quincy, but they are still missing the first part of the alphabet, including Keene Township, which is where my grandmother should be listed. I did find one of my Hancock County families though: http://www.rootdig.com/census/1930fredufkes.html Still no index for 1930 Illinois though. Michael http://student.csc.cc.il.us/
Here is a webpage that list the people who died in the 1849 Cholera Epidemic. http://www.rootsweb.com/~iladams/cholera.htm
I doubt it. St Mary's "had" records but when I went to check on some medical records from about 1917, they told me that a convent in Ohio or Indiana had the old St Mary's Hospital records. I never did find them. As far as records from back then regarding the Cholera deaths, you "might" find a listing in the Newspaper during that time about who died of Cholera. You will spend probably the whole day looking too since they just placed anything anywhere in the paper back then. I remember reading something on the Cholera epidemic in June 1849 about certain people dying and then it mentioned there were "X" amount of people whom were unknown but died of Cholera. It mentioned the people's profession as painters. Good luck......I think my great great grandfather Adam Brendel was one of the "X" people who died during that time. We have found records of him being alive in 1848-1849 and then he simply vanished so we are assuming he died of Cholera but have not found out for sure. Thanks for clarifying things Lucy. I probably just got them put in there backwards. I had Effie as a daughter of Samuel so I had at least that part right! Hi Mindy - I'm not sure who you thought Minerva was but here's the story (as I understand it.) Minerva "Effie" Thompson (one of Dr. Samuel Thompson's eldest children - born around 1821) married John Pilcher (son of Edward and Nancy Pilcher) 17 Jan 1839 in Adams County, IL. She died 4 April 1890 in Hannibal, Marion County, MO, although she had been living in Reno County, KS in 1880. Two of her children, William and Sara "Sallie" moved to Reno County, KS, in 1875. Will Pilcher became a druggist and postmaster in Partridge, Reno County, KS, and lived out his life there. Sallie died in Reno County 29 Oct. 1902. Her first husband was Lamar Farnsworth, who she married in 1865. She later married O.F. Kemp. (Some of this information comes from the transcription of a diary written between 1871 and 1875 by Julia Aurora Field, daughter of Salvina (Thompson) Field and granddaughter of Dr. Thompson. Sallie and Lamar were very close friends with Julia and her husband Thompson Burton Hand.) By the way, Partridge, Kansas, is where my grandmother was born. Will Pilcher sent for my great-grandmother, Kate Thompson (youngest child of Dr. Samuel Thompson, born in 1861), to come and teach school where she met and married my great-grandfather, Alonzo Bradbridge. Does that clarify things (or just muddy the waters more)? Lucy
