The Quincy area was settled by 2 Platt families over the years... the Platts from Indiana (no relation) and the Platts from our side arrived in Quincy via the west coast. (Further proof the family did everything backwards .hehe) Mary Dodd (Daughter of Wesley and Sarah) and Joseph Platt were my great grandparents. My grandfather, Edward Joseph Platt married Mary Riley and had my father...John Edward Platt....I have much more information for you...but, I wanted you to know that you're on the right track. It was great hearing from you in Rootsweb. I look forward to sharing more info. TY again... Sincerely, Mary Platt-Lindley

I have only limited info and I am hoping someone can fill in a few basics from the local census / obituary data base. Joseph Wealing married Dorothea Riefenberg and they lived, at least for a while, in Quincy, IL. They had a daughter, Dora (?), who married Charles Zecher. Dora was born in 1875, perhaps in or near Quincy. Joseph and Dorothea may have had as many as 4 other children, names unknown. Dora's place in the birth order is unknown. Joseph's birth / death info is unknown. Dorothea was born in Braunschweig possibly between 1833 and 1839. She immigrated through New Orleans in 1847 with her parents and two brothers. She may have died between 1875 and 1882. This is all I have on Dorothea. She was my Great Grandfather's sister. Thank you!
Hi all, At Obituary Central http://www.obitcentral.com I'm always on the lookout for new research resources on the web. Yesterday I just discovered that Google has a new feature called Google News. Now this isn't the newsgroups as in the past. This is an index of over 4000 news publications on the web. After seeing the new feature I decided to try it out and typed in a surname only to find an obituary that I've been seeking for several days! The URL for the new feature is at http://news.google.com/ Hope this helps! As usual, we left Osage Beach (where we were attending a wedding) later than expected. (The outlet mall was calling my name.) When we got to the turnoff to Quincy, by Palmyra, I was ready to exit ... unfortunately, the other members in the car gave me a scathing glare - everyone wanted to get back home. I guess I'll be making a trip to Quincy in the near future. If I'm ALONE maybe I can do more than visit the cemetery. Thanks again for the directions. I've printed them out for *future* use. Lynnea
