This is my relative..and in re-reading your message I saw the name Smith..and wondered if you had any info on this Reuben Smith. He dies between 1842 and 1848..Hannah marries Kenneth McCoy in 1848 in Brown County. Apparently in the history of Adams County book there is some mention of this, but I don't have access to the book at all. Hannah's maiden name was KNIGHT..and she was born in NY. There are Knight families right next to McCoy in Brown County..a James and a John B..so wonder if you might peruse your book and see what you can dig up. I'm at a brick wall over this one. Apparently Hannah and Reuben were received into the church . It also mentions that Hannah McCoy died 21 Aug 1872 in Clayton..do you know where she is buried? thanks for any help you can offer..as I say I"M STUCK! Rick.
Margaret - I have very little information on my Hewitt connection but here's what I know. My gg-grandfather's first wife was Cynthia Hewitt. She was born about 1798 according to the 1850 Adams County, IL census in New York (if I am reading the script correctly). I have her father as an Ephraim or Walter and her mother as Elizabeth. Cynthia married Samuel Thompson 27 Oct. 1817 in Athens County, Ohio. Samuel and several brothers can be found in Rome Township census records until 1834 when most of the family moved to Adams County, IL. Cynthia died in 1851. Neither Chapman or Coder are names that appear in my family line. Lucy

Margaret - Does your Hewitt line include a Cynthia (Hewitt) Thompson, born about 1798, possibly in New York? Lucy, I am sorry, I do not have any other Hewitt names except that of my grandfather, James Oliver Hewitt, born Jan 1856 9n Illinois. Only recently have I found him in the 1880 census in Adams Co. Il. I have an old photo when he was 6 months old (no photographer name on photo) with his parents and another child which I perceive is a boy about 3 or 4 years older than he. Because he was listed as a nephew living in the Lewis Coder home, and because Lewis Coder married a Chapman and Oliver Perry Hewitt married a Chapman it is possible that these families are connected with my James Oliver Hewitt who was an orphan at an early age. It is not a lot of information but a genealogical problem that surfaced 30 years ago . To complicate my search for James Hewitt, his marriage in Kansas resulted in the fact that he became my grandfather who deserted his family in 1892 and was never reunited with them. I spent 3 days this past week in the town in Kansas where I searched the courthouse and learned more about his reasons for leaving but no knowledge of where he went. Can you or anyone else help me??? Margaret

I have tried to find Leroy Hickerson because he married Rebecca Carr, about the same time as John married Martha, so thought maybe She might be related to John. I think I solved the Emma , she married a Hallam in Missouri. her name was Sarah Emma, and the census used both names sarah on one and emma on the other. Is the Martha that married John Carr a relative to your Hickersons, who was martha's parents? Was John her first husband? and did she die in child birth? was Amanda her only child? any info would be appreiciated. and I will do the same for you.
