Hi All, A couple of weeks ago someone sent a website that this guy lives in Salt Lake and would do research at the library. Can anyone please send me the URL that was in the email. I thought I saved it in my favorites but now I can't find it. Thanks Shawnnee
> Thanks to all for your help. I did write to Adams County Vital Statistics office. They do not show any records of their death. Looks like I will try the State Archives. Do they do the look ups, or do I need to order the film through FHC? I did discover, as I reviewed my cemetery books, that they are buried in the Greenmount Cemetery. Block 4 Lot 72 GUSTAFSON, Helen 1857-1936 GILLESPIE, William "Father" 21 July 1844 - 15 June 1900 Ann "wife" 1845 - 2 April 1915 GILLESPIE, d/o W.E. & Mrs. d. 1909 Age 5 months (granddaughter to above) LOVE, Frank B. 1879-1936 "Father" MCCRELLIS, John D. 1838-1900 Co B (Rest illegible) "Mason" (brother in law to above GILLESPIE) MCCRELLIS, Arabelle 1845-1926 w/o John D. Has anyone contacted Greenmount Cemetery to see if they give copies of records for burial. I know in some, you can get quite a bit of family info off of these. Are there funeral home books or perhaps an obit that would give more info? Thanks again for your help. This is for Laura - My gg grandfather Bryant (Hiram) was in the 1870 census in Illinois but not in the 1880. His wife died in 1878 and her death certificate said she was a widow. There was no state census for 1875. There was no death certificate for Hiram. So, I didn't know when he died 1870 - 1878 or where. There was no record of him in any cemetery. The courthouse told me that the old tax records had been given to the Gardner Museum of Architecture in Quincy. It is housed in the old Quincy Public Library on the corner of the town square (park in the center). It is one of those old Victorian stone structures. Very nicely done. I made an appointment for the next day. They went down to their basement and brought up the years that I needed. The books are divided by townships then by property taxes and then personal taxes, then delinquent. I looked at 1840, 1845, 1855, 1875. I was searching for other ancestors in the Quincy area also. When I got to 1875, Hiram was listed with a note that he paid his taxes and his return address was Canton, Missouri. That is directly across the Mississippi River from Quincy. I would never have known that any other way. Tax records are fascinating. There you are paging through books that were written in 1850, etc. Little notes from the tax collector - moved, gone to Missouri, died, etc. So, now I know that Hiram was alive in 1875 and in Canton, Missouri. I will write to the historical society there to see if they have any city directories and/or cemetery books to see if he died there. Of course, I am also open to the possibility that he was not dead in 1878. He might have just abandoned his wife and moved off. But, he was older so that is not likely. To my knowledge, tax records are the only annual records that are available. Judy Oklahoma City

I had a first cousin who lived in that area. His name was John E. Kemner and he died 2 Oct 1972 in Belleville (according to the SSDI). His wife's name was Elizabeth who died on 10 May 1965 in E. St.Louis. In particular, I am looking for his spouse's maiden name, when they were married, their children, his parent's names and where he was buried. I thought an obituary of his would give some of this data. Thanks for any help.

List members - I am looking for information about the death of Dr. Samuel Thompson, my gg-grandfather. Some of my fellow researchers put his death on 10 March of 1870 but I believe that he was still living at this time. Other researchers believe his death came on 10 March of 1879 or later. He is believed to have died in New London, Missouri. Dr. Thompson was one of five brothers that came to Adams County, IL, in 1834 from Athens County, Ohio. Joseph Thompson, the eldest brother, married Priscilla Crandall, the first child born in Adams County. Dr. Thompson is referred to in my family documents as a saddlebag doctor. Since he was a fairly early settler and physician in the area as well as a member of a fairly well known family, it would seem likely that an obit was published in one or more of the local newspapers. Can anyone help me in confirming the date and place of death or obtaining an obit for him? Thank you, Lucy
