We promised to exchange information. I sent him mine; he never sent his. But he did say he was the grandson of Catherine Strenning's sister. Strenning is how he spelled it. Streuning is supposedly how it was spelled in Germany and it may have been "von Streuning." I can't recall Catherine's sister's name and didn't write anything down since I was expecting documentation in the mail. But your Eliza looks like a promising thread as the geography and general time frame are good. Please keep me posted and I will do the same.
I took am interested in this Bible. I'm looking for where Hannah Curless was born. She was my GGGrandmother. Hannah was the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Cox Curless. I believe Samuel was the son of Joel and Rachel Curless who died in Pike County in abt 1869. I also believe Samuel's siblings were Abiah, John, and Mary. Susan Jurado

The sad thing is that my 2g gm Elizabeth Susan (Mackey) Potter, wife of Uriah Potter, did not have any sons. The daughters were Rachel, Julia A. and Amanda Elizabeth Potter. Uriah had sisters Rachel and Amanda. No Julia... so possibly, the name Julia came from the Mackey side. I have worked years on this.....lol. I will search more in the Kentucky counties that you mentioned. Any help is welcomed......... Marysue

Surnames: Mackey, Holtsclaw Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Wg.2ADE/3753.1 Message Board Post: Marysue, I also read the Bio of Henzie Darneille. I don't know if our Mackeys are related. The Mackey bunch I am researching is first found in Jefferson Co., KY, then in Oldham Co. KY, then they come to Daviess and McLean Co., KY. The names are the same and they were also blacksmiths!!!!! That is what caught my attention. There were a bunch of Mackey people in the far southeastern part of Kentucky, but they weren't in Kentucky early enough. And no blacksmiths. John Mackey and Julia Holtsclaw were married in Jefferson Co., KY on 6 Mar 1828. Her guardian was Mary Kelly. They had seven kids and many descendants are in McLean Co., today. His brother Simon Peter Mackey married Prudence Wells in Oldham Co., KY on 16 Sep 1833. They had nine kids and many descendants. They are buried in the Mackey Cemetery in McLean Co., KY. I don't have John's birth, but his brother Simon was born 27 Dec 1813. That would put him in the age range to be your Elizabeth Susan's brother. John and Simon both had daughters named Mary Elizabeth. (Mary for Mary Kelly and Elizabeth for their sister???????) Simon and Prudence came to the Beech Grove area of Daviess Co., KY, which later became McLean Co., KY. around 1848. He was on the 1850 Daviess Co. Census as a blacksmith. There was an Alexander Mackey, who died in 1844 in Jefferson Co., KY, and left as his property one horse and some tools, which were blacksmithing tools. An Alexander Mackey married Susann Zarring in Oldham Co., KY on 27 Jan 1831. A John Mackey married a Mary Riley on 16 May 1809 in Jefferson Co., KY. A John Mackey in Lewis Co., KY left a will written in 1831 that named one son, Alexander and his son John's widow and her children, a daughter Elizabeth and another daughter, Mary, who married a Kelly. (The Mary Kelly who was Julia Holtsclaw's guardian?????) He leaves his blacksmithing tools to his son, Thomas. Do you have any other information on your Elizabeth Susan? Glenda gwillistree@yahoo.com
