    1. [ILADAMS] Looking for my 3rd great grandfather.....
    2. Hello, I am new to this list and just found out that my 3rd great grandfather and possibly my 3rd great grandmother died around Quincy Illinois. Their names were Abraham Jones and Eleanor Cooksey Jones. Abraham died October 23, 1888, he was in the Illinois Soldier and Sailor Home, I just recieved his civil war pension file and which gave some information on him, I haven't found out when and where his wife Eleanor died and where they buried her. Any help on finding his grave or possibley the cemetery they are buried in is appreciated. jamie

Josiah H. Platt of Riverside died at 5:15 o'clock Monday afternoon. He had been in failing health for some time and death was due to the infirmities of old age. He was one of the early settlers in the county. In 1849 he went to California from here at the time of the gold fever, driving to the coast with an ox team, a trip that occupied six months. Mr. Platt was born near Cincinnati, Ohio, on Oct.17, 1831 and was therefore 84 years, 10 months and 25 days of age. He came with his parents to Quincy, Ill. when but a child and had resided here continuously since. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Alanson Platt and was married to Sarah Anne Kendall on Nov. 6, 1859. The happy union was broken a little over a year ago. He is survived by eight children: James F., of Riverside township; Louis K. of Dallas, Texas; William E. of St. Louis, Mo; Harry H., of Riverside township; Mrs. Carl R. Zinn, McCloud, California; Josiah A., of Riverside township; Mrs. C.H. Brooks of 616 North Sixth avenue of this city, and Miss May at home. Thirty-three grandchildren are left to mourn his death. Funeral services will be held from the family residence Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Thomas Stephenson, of the First Baptist church will conduct the services. Miss Edith Wolterman yesterday went to Mendon, MO, where she is to be in charge of the millinery department of the Mendon Mercantile Company, a large department store. She will be gone about ten weeks. William Meyer, the prescription clerk at Bernbrock's Drug Store went last week with his wife for a visit of two weeks among friends and relatives in Chicago, Milwaukee and Gary, Ind. Henry Brant winner of the second ___finals in golf at the Country Club, and challenged by Dr. H.L. Whipple for his place, beat the latter Sunday 2 up and 1 to go. Dr. Whipple had a qualifying score which he felt was not indicative of his game and therefore issued the challenge. Vote for Siepker for state senator. Advertisement. After considering the matter from several sides and angles, Charles Zang has decided he will be a candidate for city treasurer and ex-officio town collector at next spring's election. Dr. Don Pierce and Joseph Spees and their wives drove over by auto from Newark yesterday and remained in the city during the night, starting on the return this forenoon. Tom Linn, an old veteran residing at Seehorn Station who was seriously ill, is improving. Arthur W. Steward, aged 31, of Detroit and Miss Alta L. Learned age 23 of Quincy have received a license to wed. Misses Katherine and Eleanor Piggott of 1634 Vermont Street have returned home from a business visit of a week in Chicago. Mrs. Elliott Shaw, who has been visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William L. Schauf, 906 Broadway, this summer is to leave tomorrow to join her husband in New York City. J. Martin Stolze, who has been the guest of his parents at 630 Vine Street, for the past month, will leave tonight for New York City. He will join the Art Students League. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Mays of Wichita, Kas, are the parents of a son. Mrs. Mays before her marriage was Miss Edna Best of this city, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Best. Mae McCubbins, who was married to Jesse McCubbins, August 23, 1903, has filed suit for divorce, charging that he deserted her July 15, 1909. They have one child, Cecil, aged 12. Jesse Moke was up in county court this morning charged with child abandonment. Moke is one of the strike-breakers who came to Quincy at the time of the show case works strike. Mrs. Mary Luther of 305 Washington Street, who has been ailing for some time, is growing weaker and no hope is entertained for her recovery. Her daughter, Mrs. J. Miller of Milwaukee arrived at her bedside Sunday to care for her.

    3. My fathers military records indicate that he was a residence in Quincy in 1920. His address was given as 217 N. 10th. I would like to obtain more information. So any that you might have to offer would be appreciated. Also my father was a musician in a group @ Quincy. Alexander Oertle, a former Quincy butcher, died Sunday evening in St. Louis at the home of his son, Joseph. The dead man had been living in Chicago since his removal from this city about seven or eight years ago. He is survived by his wife, three sons and one daughter. The remains will be brought to this city tomorrow for burial in the family lot in St. Boniface cemetery. Mrs. Oertle, the widow, is a sister of Mr. Holthaus, who resides on Payson avenue, between Sixth and Seventh. DEATH: The Quincy Whig Newspaper, dated 22 September 1903, page 4, colume 4-5. "Alex Oertle Died in St. Louis - Remains of Former Quincy Man Will be Brought to This City for Burial" Word was received in the city yesterday of the death in St. Louis of Alexander Oertle, formerly of this city. Mr. Oertle some years ago conducted a meat market on South Sixth street near the place where the Wabash depot now stands. He left Quincy about seven or eight years ago and has since made his home in St. Louis. The remains will be brought to this city for burial in the family lot at St. Boniface. There are many friends of the family in Quincy who will regret to hear of Mr. Oertle's death. He is survived by his wife.

She passed away at 7:40 o'clock Sunday evening. Mrs. Oertle was 61 years of age and was born in Quincy. She was the widow of Alexander Oertle, who died about two years ago at the family home in St. Louis. Mrs. Oertle's family surname was Holthaus and she has a brother in Quincy. Of the immediate family there are three sons, Julius H., Henry C., and Joseph L. Oertle, and one daughter, Mrs. Edward Baker, all of them reside in St. Louis. Mrs. Oertle had been making her home lately with her daughter, whose address is 2834 Franklin avenue. The Oertles removed from Quincy about 25 years ago and have since been living in St. Louis.

I received copies of an admission file and where my ancestor was buried along with other papers. Didn't take a long time to get the information back.
