    1. Re: [ILADAMS] Burton Cemetery Lookups
    2. I looked at the 3 cemetery books I have for cemeteries in the county (as opposed to Quincy cemeteries), and the only thing I could find that might be a possibility is: Thos Wittikind 1819-1908 Nancy Wittikind 1829-1889 buried at Independence Cemetery near Burton. This may not be your family however, as these 2 are buried next to another Thos Wittikind (d. 1864) and his wife Jane (d. 1888). Would you like me to look at the cemetery books I have for Quincy cemeteries for all these names? Bobbie already looked for various spellings of Whittekiend, Wittekind, Whitaken, Whitican, etc. in the Burton, and Camp Point cemetery books and found nothing for Tobias and Martha Elizabeth Wittekind. Maybe you could find two of their children's graves. Their son, Thomas Wittekind, died between Jun 02, 1900 - Apr 28, 1910 in Burton. Also, their daughter, Catherine E. Wittekind married twice. I don't know if she's buried under her first married name of Garbrecht\Gabbraith\Garbath\Garbatt\Garbrech or her second married name of Miller, 2nd wife of Herman Miller. Could you also lookup George and Ruth Kuhns, Koons, Koontz, Coons, etc. Thank you for your help, Carolyn ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ________________________________________________________________________ Check out the new AOL. The headstones read as follows: Row # 5 STRICKLER, JACOB 4 MAR 1823 - 7 APR 1900 ELSPY SCOTT STRICKLER 4 MAY 1828 - 27 OCT 1899..... I can get a copy of her obit if you would like. I also found a David Strickler, his wife Anna and a John Strickler in Row #14. Their headstones read as follows: STRICKLER, DAVID d. 24 AUG 1867 75y 1m 19d ANNA d. 29 DEC 1880 77y 6m 2d JOHN d. 5 JAN 1881 38y 9m 18d In the same row, their were the following: STRICKLER, JEREMIAH 1835 - 1920 SARILDA DOWNING STRICKLER "His Wife" 1837 - 1891 Their were about 18 other Stricklers buried in York Neck cemetery. I have the list if you are interested. I could not find a James M. Harris or his wife Anna Maria in this cemetery. I also found a biography on a Jeremiah Strickler. It shows that he was born December 26, 1835 in Pennsylvania and came to Adams County Illinois with his parents, David and Emily Strickler, in 1837. David and Emily Strickler's children were; Stewart, Wesley, Abram, Elizabeth, Lewis, Clark, Jeremiah, Maria, and Emily................ I can't seem to connect your Jacob Strickler to David Strickler. However, I found something that probaly leads to your Jacob's parents. In York Neck cemetery, there is another Jacob Strickler with his wife Catharine. Their headstones reads as follows: STRICKLER, JACOB d. 13 MAY 1865 68y 9m 6d CATHARINE W/O JACOB STRICKLER d. 12 NOV 1877 76y 10m 24d Since all of the Stricklers came to Adams County from Pennsylvania, I checked the 1850 Pennsylvania census and found a Jacob Strickler and wife Catharine with ten children (i have their names if you want them) living as neighbors with your Jacob, age 27 and Elsie, age 22 and daughter Ann Mirah , age 1. All of these people were born in Pennsylvania. So I think your Jacob's parents were Jacob and Catharine Strickler. I can't find anything that relates David to Jacob, but I am guessing that David was probably a brother to Jacob Sr. I hope this helps and doesn't confuse you. You may already have some of this info. If you have any questions you can email me at [email protected] I also found quite a few death notices / obits on Stricklers at the Quincy Public Library

    3. I am new to this mailing list. My GGgrandfather L.C. Newland, & family lived in Quincy for a time 1860-1862. I do believe one son died there. James Newland-I believe it was about June -Aug 1861. According to a letter a tombstone was bought.....Could anyone help me??? They lived on a bluff overlooking Quincy. I am not familiar with the area. It would be a wonderful gift to find young James' grave.
