My GGGGrandfather was Jacoby HALLACK. The following notice was posted in an Ohio newspaper about him: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Death of Col. Hallack. - - The Quincy Illinois Whig announces the decease, at that place, of Jacoby Hallack, Esq. formerly of Lebanon. Source: The Western Star, 1840 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Is there anyone who can tell me anymore about this? Is there an obituary notice in old editions of the Whig? Is there a better place for me to ask these sorts of questions? Any/All help is gratefully appreciated. Mike
Hello Linda Thanks for providing the Probate information listed below. Since then I have contacted and received a reply from Randy Frese, Clerk of the Circuit Court at Adams County. He searched the will and probate files for Gerd F. Miller and found that his actual date of death was May 10, 1881. I guess the records listed below are related to a probate publication notice date. Just an FYI if you need to notate your book. I have a followup question that I am hoping you might be able to answer. Sometimes there are county biography/history books written by Johnson (1880) Chapman Bros (1880s), Andreas (1882), Dobbs (1918). I am assuming the same is true of Illinois. Do you know if there are any such entries in a bio/history for Gerd F. Mueller/Miller - or perhaps his son Herman Miller (which sometimes also include information about the parents). Specifically, I am trying to locate any details about the marriage of Gerd F. Miller to Gesche Flessner, such as her birth date, place, marriage information. I am trying to confirm if Gesche Flessner Miller was his second wife; she is buried in the Meints Cemetery in Adams Co. Illinois. [His wife in Germany was a completely different name, and their children's baptism records also indicate the mother's maiden name was Dirks or Rolfs.] Any suggestions you might have would be helpful. Thanks once again for all your help. Have you tried the Minnesota Historical Society to see if they can find an obit for you. I had requested one......very old....grin. For $15 they not only sent me the obit but the death notice and also an article that was on the front page regarding the death. Don't know if Indiana has something like that but you might check that out also. Another avenue is contacting the Cemetery. Sometimes they have copies of the obit on file or at least the date and paper in which it was published. From there you can work with a library to see if they can help. Most libraries charge a minimal amount for finding them. Here's the URL for the Minnesota Historical Society. Hope this helps, Gretchen http://www.mnhs.org/index.htm

I am hoping to find obits for two nuns who were born in Quincy, but died elsewhere. They were the daughters of John Bernard Thiemann and Mary Anna Kalmer. They were both members of the Order of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. Sister Anthusa (born Christina Thiemann), born 15 July 1970 in Quincy, IL - died 22 October 1943 in New Ulm, MN. Sister Inviolata (born Elizabeth Thiemann), 11 October 1877 - in Quincy, IL - died 30 September 1938. Both were buried at Mt. Carmel, Donaldson, Marshall Co., IN. Even though neither had lived in Quincy for many years and they were not buried there, I am hoping that there might have been obituaries for them in a Quincy newspaper since there were still family members in the city at that time. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you, Ingrid Jones

Linda, Thank you for the time to do the lookup for me. You mentioned an attachment of STRICKLERS. The attachment did not come through. Do you mind sending it again. I have a copy of death certificate for James M. Harris from Adams Co., Illinois. States date of death Dec 31, 1902; age 64 yrs, 10 mos, 28 days; born Indiana; resident of state 37 years; place of death Golden, Illinois; burial York Neck Cemetery Houston TWP Jan 02, 1903; undertaker Wm Liggett Camp Point, Illinois; E G Hedrick M.D. His wife Anna Maria Strickler Harris lived another 31 years. I find her on census records through 1910 Houston, Adams Co., Illinois age 61 widow. She died 21 January 1934 in Adams Co., Illinois Guess I'll just keep digging. Maybe I will actually get to visit this cemetery and be surprised to find his tombstone. I have found relatives before buried in cemeteries when they were not listed on cemetery records or there was a different spelling. I haven't found HARRIS misspelled yet, but there is always a first. If I can do a lookup for you in Iowa, just let me know.
