    3. Carolyn, I don't think so. Herman was Reinhold's son, not brother. (That is, Herman was my great-uncle, the brother of William Frederick.) Herman was born in New York, according to the 1880 census, assuming that's accurate. I know he died around 1888, at the age of around 17 or 18. Thanks, though. It was worth a try. Jose [email protected] wrote: Jose, I read your note about Reinhold Mueller with great interest, especially when I saw the name of his older brother, Herman Mueller. The 2nd marriage of my ggr. aunt, Catherine E. Whittaken, on April 22, 1865 in Adams Co., IL., was to Herman Miller (b: 1815-1816 in Lippe\Prussia\Germany). Herman's 1st marriage was to Dickmon ____?___ (b: abt 1827 in Germany). The children from Herman's 1st marriage were William (1848), Fredrick (1853), Mary (1855), and Rene (1859) and were all born near Burton, Adams Co., IL. With the variations in spelling of the surname Miller/Mueller, I wonder if it is possible that this Herman Miller may have been may have been related to those that you are searching for. Could it be that he is the namesake for your great-uncle who died at age 18? ~Carolyn

    3. Denise, Thanks so much for responding. The Reinhold Mueller in the Quincy Directory is my great-great-grandfather. But the one in the 1870 census probably isn't the same guy. Rather, my great-great-grandfather appears in the 1880 census as Reinhardt Miller. I know he came to Quincy from Syracuse, NY (I don't know yet when), and winds up back in Syracuse sometime between 1880 and 1896 (my guess is around the mid 1880s, based on the 1900 census, which indicates he remarried around 1885), but that's what I'm trying to figure out. Thanks again! Jose [email protected] wrote: Jose, I found a listing for Reinhold Mueller in the Quincy City Directory. He listed his profession as a travelling salesman and gives his street address. An image of what I found is below. I also found an 1870 census listing for Reinhold when he was 17 years old living with his parents and siblings in St. Louis. One of Reinhold's sister's name was Louise. Perhaps your grandmother was named after her. Reinhold's father's name was Anton and his mother was Ginna. Both of them were born in Baden, Germany. Anton was 46 and Ginna 47 in 1870. Anton was working in a stone quarry. Anton valued his real estate at $2500 and his personal property at $120 Don't know if these are the right people or not. Have you tried checking out the census data that is available? I do find other census data available for Reinhold Mueller. As far as William, not as much luck. A great deal is known about the Dunsmoor Family, for example, Abner was a merchant listed as “Dunsmoor, Abner G.; res[idence] n[orth]w[est] cor[ner] Fourth and Maine [sic].” on the 1866 Quincy Directory Index Page. Also, Augustus went at age two to Morgan County, Ohio, to live with Abner’s brother, while Abner remained in Quincy where he died 21 Jan 1874 and was buried in Rockland Cemetery (Is there a list of burials in this cemetery that might include Sally Ann and daughter?). Any information on the Miller Family and/or on the ancestors of Sally Ann Miller would be greatly appreciated.

    2. Are any of you researching the GARBRECHT's of Adams Co., IL? My gg grandfather's sister, Catherine E. Whittaken, married a Garbrecht and had 3 children. Catherine and her children, August (b: 1851-1852), Anna (b: abt 1856), and Henry (b: abt 1859), were living with her parents in Burton, Adams Co., IL on 6/7/1860 when the 1860 census was enumerated. She was listed as married but her husband was not living with them at the time. Her surname on the census was spelled either GARBATH or GARBALT. Other various spelling that I've found are Garbatt\Garbrecht\Galbrecht\Garbrech. Catherine married Herman Miller in 1865. I found them on the 1870 census still living in Burton. Her youngest, Henry, child was living with them and has taken the name of Miller. August Garbrecht was living with his uncle William Dickhut & aunt Caroline (Garbrecht) Dickhut in Ellington, Adams Co., IL during the enumeration of the 1870 census. I'm not sure where Anna was living in 1870 but in 1880 she was listed as Anna Garbrech and was living with her aunt, Anna Naylor's family in Columbus Twp., Adams Co., IL. I am looking for the name of the husband and any information you may have about him and the 3 children. Thank you, Carolyn Menges
