I just added the last of what I have for Adams County history to my web site. The two pages added today are: Clayton and Golden Payson and Plainville. I have also started the 1837 Gazetteer of Illinois by J. M. Peck. For this I have the section of Counties online and have started putting the section for "A particular description of each Town, Settlement, Stream, Prairie, Bottom, Bluff, Ect." online. The part going on now should be much more interesting to read than the County section All the Illionis history files that I have online can be found with this link http://history.rays-place.com/il/index.htm Sorry that I can't stay on this list, but I got into a disagrement with a spammer who wanted to post to my forum. He lost the website that he had but is winning the spamming war by making sure that I get about a thousand emails a day. Just part of life on the web. Cheers Ray Brown http://www.rays-place.com

These two churches "should" be the same. The Methodist Episcopal Church was one of several 19th c. denominations that merged to becaoe the Methodist Church later on and is now the United Methodist Church. So this record should be the right one. It contains baptisms and marriages for the timeframes that you are researching. The film # is 965271, which can be ordered from your local Family History Center. I'm not sure if that is the same as First German Methodist Episcopal. If you have questions about ordering that microfilm, I'd be happy to explain further. Good luck! Here is the website for the names of the churches in Adams County. I know the church at Bluff Hall was once a German church. You can find a list of the family names if you go to the website below. Hello, I am searching for an obit on a child, May Luther. Parents were Jacob & Minnie Luther. She would have been born & died between 1895-1900. Not sure how old she was when she died. She was most likely born in Quincy, IL. Any info greatly appreciated! Thanks, Carrie Maaske __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hello, Seekers! For those of you looking for surnames, especially in Quincy, IL, suggest you Search Engine to an on-line telephone directory - see of the surnames are not still present in the area. I'm sure there are STEINKAMPs and RUPPs in Quincy. Seems like they continue to run businesses in town. I visit there very infrequently and seem to remember hearing those names in a conversation. For those of you who don't know, Quincy is a very old 'river town' [on the Mississippi and was originally settled by German immigrants. At one time, only German surnames were found in the South of Town; others lived in the North of Town. There is a Historical Society in Quincy; also, a pretty good genealogy room in the public library [it is practically brand new with all the bells & whistles]. Check for addresses - write a letter of enquiry to the person(s), always stating your reason 'up front' for writing. It also helps to enclose a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) for a response. Check also for Email addresses for those name in an Email Directory. Then send whomever msgs. Also - check out the www.usgenweb.com for Illinois - go to Adams Co. [easily searchable]. There is a link to "Old (or original) German Settlers. There are also 'how-to' addresses for facilities you can send a letter of enquiry to about the surnames. Good Hunting - Good Luck! http://www.archive.quincylibrary.org/Archive/skins/QPL/navigator.asp?BP=OK&GZ=T&AW=1092320422515 There are about 300 articles in the on-line Quincy newspaper from the 1800s about the Steinkamp's. Bernard Steinkamp was evidently very active in politics. Use the above link, do a word search, type in Steinkamp, search all publications, search entire archive period, the press "go" next to the search all publications. bobert <[email protected]> wrote: Hello, Seekers!
