The first thing I did when seeking information on my grandfather, James Hewitt, who lived in Kansas when he deserted his family in 1892 was to find a newspaper item detailing his departure, He had taken a load of grain to his home town Robinson, Kansas, put his wagon & horses to the livery stable, purchased a train ticket to the next town. On the train he purchased a ticket to Grand Island, Nebraska, but left the train at Fairbury Nebraska. From there I know not where he went. However the courthouse in Brown County Kansas showed that he was being sued for money that he borrowed. Since then have I have learned that James Hewitt was in the 1880 census in Quincy Illinois living with an uncle and aunt, Lewis & Julia Coder and his parents are Oliver P. Hewitt & wife Phoebe Chapman the daughter of William Chapman also of Quincy. I have received a response from one whose family raised James Hewitt which helps to fill in some blanks. Can anyone supply information on the Hewitt, Coder or Chapman families residing in Quincy before & after 1880? Thank you! Margaret

I am hunting for anything regarding Roy V. Flick, my paternal grandfather who deserted his family c. 1920 and told his oldest son that he was going to Canada. I shall be posting various items on here in coming days in hope that someone from Quincy or who is familiar with that area may offer suggestions of how to move forward in my search for what may have become of him. This question involves what would have been the easiest route to Canada. Would he have went up the MIssissippi River? He did work on riverboats at times. What would have been the requirement in 1920 to get into Canada? Thanks, Eddy A. Flick
Hi Libby, Yesterday you found Ralph Howard in the Stewart cemetery for me and now I need to know if there was an Abraham & Rachel Howard along with Harley W. & Ada Howard? Am sure they are buried in Adams County. Thanks. Roberta Summers ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Hello Linda When you have a chance, could you check to see if there is anything known about a death date and cemetery for these two people --- Borchert Jansen Schoen, b. 05 Nov 1808, migrated at age 57 in 1865 to Adams Co. Illinois. His wife was Etta / Margarethe / Margaret Habben Schoen, b. 01 Jun 1817, Germany. The 1870 census indicates Berget J. Shon and his wife are at Keokuk Junction, Northeast Twnshp. I cannot locate either of them in the 1880 census so am wondering if they died 1870-1880. Their son John, b. 1844 Germany, d. 1923 Adams Co. Illinois is listed in Boyken, however Borchert and Ette are not in Boyken, so maybe they died before 1882 (first publication of the Nachrichten/Boyken). I have seen the Schoen name spelled as Schoon, Schoen, Shoon, Schone. I have seen the name Borchert, spelled as Berget, Burchardt, Burghard, Boerchert . . . Borchert and Ette Schoen might be in the same cemetery as son John, but I don't know. Thanks for your help, have a nice Easter weekend. Diana --------------------------------- Be a PS3 game guru.
