Hello Listers, I am new to the list and I really need some help. I am looking for members of my mothers side of my family. If there is anyone on this list who is researching Hefners, or is named Hefner or knows someone who is named Hefner would you please contact me even if you don't know the names below? My name is Evelyn Jumper Crowe, my mother and father were Willie Rose Hefner and Charley Jumper. Willie's parents were Tom Hefner and Pearl Farrow. Willie's brothers were Crim, Lewis, Seal (John), Belton, Willie's sisters were Donnie, Annie and Bobbie We know that Crim died in Aurora Kane Co. Illinois in 1978, so some of his children or grandchildren may still be in that area. Crim's wife's name was Savanah Balwin. We believe he had a daughter named Elisabeth. I grew up in Missouri and my families were from Mississippi. We believe the Hefners may have been from Illinois. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. Evelyn
This is a one time announcement. http://www.historicalart.net/ is pleased to announce our new historical map website. Panoramic Maps, 1847-1929 offer "bird's-eye" views of nineteenth and early twentieth century cities and towns across the nation. Each map contains a detailed look at architecture and urban planning of the period, and allows users to zoom in on particular areas. Our work focuses on large-scale printing of these map collections, produced in part with MrSID® (multiresolution seamless image database) technology by LizardTech. The library's initial use of this technology was for the delivery of historic panoramic maps that have been scanned into raster image files, so they could be viewed on a computer monitor. These primary historical documents reflect the attitudes, perspectives, and beliefs of different times. Most of these maps offer a genealogical value because they served as merchant directories, and most businesses of the time used their surname as part of the business name. We invite you to take a look. Historical Art

On my recently published website http://www.poorhousestory.com -- which is a clearinghouse for information about 19th Century American Poorhouses -- I have featured ILLINOIS as a state where poorhouse history has been very well documented. You can see this at page http://www.getccs.com/phl/houses.htm and you can read what we have posted to the ILLINOIS page at http://www.getccs.com/phl/poorhouses_in_illinois.htm If any of you know of any ILLINOIS Poorhouse information which we have not listed, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Linda
I am trying to find information about Harvey VAN CAMP since he is connected to my WALKER line. His mother was Emma WALKER, born in 1861 in Missouri. I do not know who his father was (and hoping the marriage record will tell me that, among other things). Harvey VAN CAMP married a woman named Luretta Irene ??. He died in 1976, likely in St. Clair County. I believe his bride's last name may have been either TRABAND (maiden name) or SCHOENE (possibly her first married name), but I'm not sure. I believe the marriage occurred sometime after 1945 after he returned from World War II. Since the couple lived in Lebanon, IL, for many years, it seems likely that the marriage may have occurred in that area (St. Clair Co), as well. I am not certain of this. Is there anyone available who can do lookups to see if they can find this marriage record? I would surely appreciate it. Thanks so much, Joan -- Email: joanm@bigfoot.com Surnames I'm researching: BROOKS; BROTHERTON; CRAIG; DAVIS; GARD; GEISS; HAWKINS; KITCHEN; LIGGITT/LIGGETT; MARKLEY; ROARTY; TAYLOR; THOMPSON; VAN CAMP; WALKER; WALLS
I hope I can break down a few "brick walls" here....... Joan -- Email: joanm@bigfoot.com SURNAMES I'M RESEARCHING (not a complete list): TN/KY/MO/IL -- DAVIS,WALKER,TAYLOR AR -- WALKER MO/IL -- ROARTY,VAN CAMP,KITCHEN OH/IL -- TAYLOR MO/IL/CA -- LIGGITT,WALLS,GEISS,DAVIS CA/WA/OR -- DAVIS,KINNE OH/IN -- MARKLEY,CRAIG,HAWKINS,BROOKS,THOMPSON,GARD,BROTHERTON CA/NM -- CRAIG NOTE: Please do NOT send attachments by email! These are some of my "brick walls" that have provided me with much frustration -- all the people who would know the answers are dead now. My grandmother, Elizabeth Irene WALKER, was married five times. I am trying to find out some information about her third and fourth husbands. I think one or both of these marriages may have occurred in Missouri or Illinois. Third husband: Harvey LIGGETT/LIGGITT, married between 1935 and 1942, possibly in Missouri or Illinois. No children from this marriage. Fourth husband: Fred WALLS, married prior to 1957, possibly in Missouri or Illinois. No children from this marriage. Now for the really confusing part: my grandmother often went by the name "Lizzie" or "Irene" rather than her given names of Elizabeth Irene. In addition, I'm not sure what surname she used when she married these husbands. Possible surnames could have been WALKER (her maiden name, but it's doubtful she used this one), DAVIS (first husband), ROARTY (second husband), or LIGGITT/LIGGETT (for the marriage to Fred WALLS). I am trying to find marriage or death/divorce records for her marriages. I *think* that Harvey LIGGETT/LIGGITT died and she was widowed, and that she divorced Fred WALLS, but this is unconfirmed. I believe that both of these couples resided in California for at least part of their marriages. My grandmother moved out to California (Los Angeles County area) and resided there for most of the time since the 1930's, but she did go back and visit family and friends in the Missouri/Illinois area. If anyone can do lookups or has information about these individuals, please contact me. Thank you so much, Joan -- Email: joanm@bigfoot.com

Between Aug 1850 and Mar 1854, if I was coming from Robertson Co TN to Macoupin Co IL, had relatives in Marion County and Jefferson Co, where would I/could I have crossed the river into IL probably in a wagon, not horseback and reached the IL side (the story goes). I had a widowed gggrandmother, Sarah Adcock in that scenario, bushwacked or killed by Indians during that time period and I want to think there might be "some kind of record" in one of those IL river counties. She was said to have been travelling with a widowed daughter (we think a Joannah Basey(e) would have been the daughter - not proven, yet), the daughter's child(ren) and a young black boy who was the only one said to have lived and ran away. He was talked to later but too scared to talk. They were coming to IL to help Sarah's widower (however you call him) son (in Macoupin Co) with his children as his wife had fallen off a horse, broke her neck, and died. Any ideas/thoughts about the counties I need to look at for possible crossing the Ohio during the time period appreciated. Thanks. Gloria Frazier

List Members: It would be so nice to hear from anyone who KNOWS they had ancestors who moved to southern Illinois from Hardeman Co TN. I know there were families who made that move; two collateral lines of mine, the Wilkinsons and the Birdsongs, moved up during the middle of the War for Southern Independence :-) to Union Co IL! Was there a group of families who traveled together or was there a trickle as old neighbors found out about the environment?? Does anybody know WHY Union Co was chosen as the new homeplace? Hoping especially to hear from some cousins, pat vincent
