    1. [IL-SOUTHERN] Arthur/Emma/Harold Eggers
    2. Happy New Year to everyone! I have some new information, so maybe you all have some too! :-) ARTHUR WILLIAM EGGERS: (Also known as "Art") Born ABT 1880 in St. Louis; d 25 Jan 1961 (can't find in the SSDI, but I have a newspaper article) at his home in Litchfield, St. Clair, Ill.; buried 27 Jan, 1961 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Belleville, St. Clair, Ill.; m EMMA (possibly VOYLES) before 1922 in Illinois; unknown birth date, d Nov 24, 1964. Can't find her in the SSDI either, but I have a newspaper article. She died in St. Clair, Illinois also, and is buried at Mount Hope, Belleville. Does anyone have these people in their database? There is an Arthur William Eggers listed in the Civil War drafts, born 1880 in South Dakota. This is a possible match, but I can't find any other information on this Arthur either. HAROLD JOSEPH EGGERS: Adopted son of ARTHUR and EMMA EGGERS; b 18 Feb 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri; d 25 Jul, 1957 (car accident on the Eads Bridge going home to Illinois, pronounced dead at St. Mary's Hospital, St. Clair, Ill). Married EVELYN HINCKLEY <1947; three children; Linda, Thomas, Harold Martin (Marty). Can't find him in the SSDI, but he is my grandfather, and we have lots of information on him, even his SS number. By the way, why can't I find him in the SSDI? I know that Evelyn applied for SS after he died. Also, he was in the Navy during WWII. So why can't I find any information on that either? This man is a mystery! Does anyone have any clues? Please help! Michelle

    2. If you are on a maillist, everyone on that maillist gets a copy of any and all information sent to that maillist. To get on the maillist, you had to subscribe. Just reverse the way you subscribed. Send a new message to: IL-SOUTHERN-L-request@rootsweb.com and only put the word unsubscribe in the body of the message. Do not sign the message or put anything else in the body of the message. And, by all means, spell the word unsubscribe correctly. A lot of people including myself don't spell the word correctly and have trouble getting off of maillists. You may still get a few messages from the list after you unsubscribe but if you unsubscribe correctly, it shouldn't take a day or two to be removed. Good luck. 1. Re: [IL-SOUTHERN] Wilkinson, Birdsong
    2. My opinion and have heard this from others. Going west was quite a long and expensive trip. Many families just had to stop somewhere to rebuild their supplies like stay a season or two or more, grow gardens to replenish food supplies. Maybe, especially this woman, would probably call a halt and say, I am living here, until my emotional would gain strength, have that 10th child, then maybe have the courage to move on. Other family or friends might have been in those counties where they "layed over," too, who could help them settle down for the time. One of my husband's distant relatives coming in a wagon train of relatives from KY, sit down on a rock, when they got to a place in MO and said, I am not going any further. The other part of the wagon train went about15 or so miles further and settled there. That is why those two parts of the family are living a distance apart. 3. Mr.HELTSLEY, I'll answer as much as I know via the mailing list in case anyone else is interested in migrations. The Wilkinsons and Birdsongs [and possibly a few other families] had been in Hardeman Co for quite a while; they moved from NC to the Nashville area for about twenty years and then on to west TN, Hardeman Co, right after it was established, ca 1823. So they weren't just passing through looking for a permanent place. I believe the move to southern Illinois at the time they made it [1863] was because they were 'for the Union' and wanted to go north for that reason. Union Co IL is not that different in climate, type of land, etc. from west TN, I've heard---do not know this for a fact---. What amazed me was that they moved in the WINTER! My branch of the Wilkinsons stayed in TN and as far as I know there was only one sibling with his family who moved to IL. I have no idea if the families corresponded after the move; we have no evidence of it here. Merry Christmas, no snow here yet. pat vincent

    2. Ms or Mr. atchisson, Why should it bother you to get messages that you asked for to begin with. How different could it have been than you expected when you subscribed. This is a place for exchange of ideas. Did you think items would be packaged neatly for only you in the way you want them. We don't know your precise situation so we can't avoid offending you on occasion. You have the right to withdraw and thank you for that at this point. I wouldn't want to exchange ideas with a person who is too easily offended. Ernie Heltsley

    2. Pat, What do you think may have drawn ancestors like yours from N.C. to Hardeman Co., Tenn. as opposed to other parts of Tenn.? My maternal ancestors, William and Rachel Morris came across from Rowan Co. N.C. sometime after 1800, stayed there for I don't know how long, before moving north into Saline Co. Ill. in about 1840, a bit earlier than your folks. I found the the elder Morrises in the Saline censuses but lost William and Rachel after 1860. Maybe they moved on north or west. Just something to ponder. Ernie Heltsley/ex-Eldoradoan searching Morris, Heltsley, and Barnes families from S.Ill., Ky., Tenn.
