    1. [IL-SOUTHERN] Census Searches at the Illinois State Archives
    2. Karima
    3. Good Evening, I would like to once again remind anyone who may not already be aware of the availability of census searches through the Illinois State Archives. If you have the name (preferably the head of household) and the county in which you know or believe him/her to have lived, you can request a search (actually two searches at a time) of the census archives. http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/serv_sta.html If the researchers at the Archives can find a record for the family, they will mail you a photocopy of the actual page on which the entry is found. It will include information on all of the individuals who were living in the household at the time the census(s) was taken. Uncertified photocopies of requested records are available at NO charge (there is some confusion among the genealogy community regarding this, but I can assure you that at this time there is no charge) - also don't bother to send a SASE, they will just return it to you). You can request copies of documents by mail, by fax, by telephone, or by personal visit. You can write/phone/fax your request to the following: Illinois State Archives Reference Unit Margaret Cross Norton Building Capitol Complex Springfield, IL 62756 Telephone: (217) 782-3556 Fax: (217) 524-3930 OR, to make it really easy, you can visit the following URL and complete the request form you will find there. http://www.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/archives/arcreq.s Some things to keep in mind when making requests are listed below. Request no more than two specific names or items per mailing. For name searches try to provide (if you have it, but if you don't have all of it don't let that stop you from making your request): 1) the individual's complete name, age, and birthplace, 2) county and township names, and 3) the year of the census(s) to be searched. Wait for a response to one request before submitting another one. The following is the main web page for the Archives, you might want to check it out to see what else is available: http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/archives.html Hope this helps, Karima List Administrator of: Illinois Roots Discussion List (ILROOTS-L) http://userweb.springnet1.com/quest/Illinoismailinglist.htm Southern Illinois Discussion List (SOIL-L) http://userweb.springnet1.com/quest/SOIL.htm J a c k s o n County, Illinois Discussion List (ILJACKSO-L) http://userweb.springnet1.com/quest/JacksonCoWelcome.htm

    3. Hi Listers, I apologize if you receive more than one copy of this message. I am looking for info on the following folks: James WADE b. 1857 Marshall Co AL m. Lucretia JACQUES on 5/10/1874 in Marshall Co AL. About 1898 he disappeared and was rumored to be living with a new family in a Southern Ill county and working on the river. John BLAKE b. abt. 1821 KY m. Margaret WADE on 7/7/1842 in Marshall Co AL. It is rumored that they moved to the Pope Co IL area. Any assistance with either of these would be greatly appreciated. 1. [IL-SOUTHERN] Cummins
    2. Julia A. Allison
    3. I have a Charles Cummins who I know lived in Southern Illinois at least around 1905 but that is all I know. So this is a long shot that someone may know of him. His parents were John & Eliza (Kibler) Cummins who lived in Jasper County, Illinois. His mother died in 1905 and her obituary lists Charles as being in Southern Illinois at this time. His wife was Sarah J. McGahan this is probably a first wife who died before 1880 as she isn't on the 1880 census. I believe there were at least two children named Austin (born c. 1877) and William (born c. 1878). This is according to the 1880 census for Jasper county. So sometime between 1880 and 1905, the family moved further south in the state. Not much of facts here but if anyone has an inkling about Charles and family, I would appreciate a message. Thank you, Julia A. Allison julia.allison@btinternet.com

    3. I am trying to locate information on Moses Jubar (Dubar/Jubard). The 1900 Dunklin Co, Missouri census lists him as Moses Jubard born in Canada in June 1849. It states that his father was born in Canada & his mother was born in Illinois. I have found where Moses married Sarah McCollum in Jackson Co., Illinois on 12/21/1876 (he was listed as Moses Jubar.) Two of their children, Moses and Alexander, were born in Illinois. Does anyone have any info about Moses and his family? Thanks, Vernon DuBar mailto:dubarv@simmonsbank.com

    1. [IL-SOUTHERN] Searching for Haggertys
    2. Sharon Haggerty
    3. I am coordinating a large set of records on a family of Haggertys who came from Cork Ireland in the early to mid 1800s. Some settled in Canada, and others in Mercer County PA. Some of the children of the Mercer County bunch disappeared and so I try to follow up any possible leads. The other day a cousin sent me the following: "I've come across an old advertisement of Haggerty's Chewing Sticks (cigars), from the early 1900's. Made by J.S. Haggerty of Murphysboro, Illinois. Would this by any chance be our line of Haggerty's? Probably not but I was curious about it." Does anyone have any formation on any Haggertys in Illinois? How about the Haggertys who had the Chewing Sticks business? The following are the Haggertys that were in Mercer but for whom I have no further info: James Haggerty b approx 1824 County Cork George W. Haggerty b approx 1855 Canada or Pennsylvania, died approx 1940 location unknown I would greatly appreciate any available information or tips concerning the above company or any Haggertys. I am interested in any variant spelling of the name--no only the spelling listed, as these folks seems to change their spelling as casually as many of us change jobs these days! Many thanks.
