Thank you all for the overwhelming responses I have received concerning hospital information, adoption information and genealogical research done through these lists. I cannot express enough how your help has given me so many leads. I don't mean to tie up these lists with thank you letters but I wanted to express my deep gratitude to all of you. My father was adopted an though I don't have much information I am positive he was born in Randolph County, Eden Illinois. I'm trying to find out where a child may have been born around 1947. Is there any way I can find out what hospitals were around at that time? Dawn Harris, McClure & Cole So. Illinois and Cook Co. Research Adoptee research
I have a SS-5 form filled out on Lily from 1945. She was born in Campbell Hill, IL county of Jackson. If anyone is looking for Lily, I would be happy to mail this form to you. She's not the Lily I'm looking for and since I paid for the form I'd like someone to have it. Please email me directly if this is someone you know. Dawn Harris, McClure and Cole So. Hello everyone. A couple of months ago, I asked if anyone was familiar with a Dr. Weiss who had a practice on about 147th and Western or Ashland in Harvey, IL. Dr. Weiss was my grandmother's family practitioner and my father remembers her visiting the office quite frequently. I received quite a few responses but unfortunately due to technical difficulties, I lost the information that I had saved. Anyway, my father remembers Dr. Weiss having a partner by the name of Dr. Burger or Berger. If these doctors sound familiar to anyone, please let me know. To my knowledge, Dr. Weiss is no longer practicing - at least not in the same area. Thanks. Dawn Harris, McClure & Cole So. Illinois and Cook Co. Research

I just wanted to update everyone. I upgraded my McAfee program and ran a scan of virus. It has taken about 3 1/2 hours to scan. It found "7" virus' called M32/BadTrans. I have removed them all. After reading all the (a ton of them I might add) email's from everyone, I just wanted to let you know that the virus was not something I downloaded, it was sent attached to a email address from a family member of mine. Once it was on my computer, it hooked it self to every email address I had. It doesn't do anything bad (from my understanding) but just causes a big headache. Just thought I would share what had happened. First, I want to say I am sorry for sending out a email in one group message, but I wasnt going to type this 30 times. Dear list manager, Please remove me from your list for now. It seems that there is a nasty person going through the mailing list and sending out some kind of virus. I have been getting all kinds of email from strangers telling me to "take a look at this file and give me your advice". It requires you to download it. I have not been doing so. I have been deleting the email instead of downloading. Some how, this person(s) has been able to get a hold of my email list form my computer and has been sending the same emails to my family and friends. Some of them with private emails (from work) that are not searchable on the net. Here is a copy of a note I sent to AOL in this problem (it also shows some of the emails I was sent and so were my family and friends): Hello, I don't know what to do. I am getting email like this from a number of different email address'. To make things worse, this person has , somehow, been able to send the same mail to email address' on my buddy list. How is that possible? Some of the email address' I have on my buddy list are through private organizations (work) and not available to the internet public. But these person's are getting them. How do I fix this problem? Here are a few for you to look at that are being sent to me: Subj: M3 Date: 7/24/2001 1:52:08 AM Eastern Daylight Time From: rjkpl@giasbm01.vsnl.net.in (rjkpl) To: adib102684@aol.com File: M3.doc.lnk (279953 bytes) DL Time (34666 bps): < 2 minutes Subj: 1843 Date: 7/24/2001 3:14:18 AM Eastern Daylight Time From: tblack1@houston.rr.com (black ted) To: ADib102684@aol.com File: 1843.doc.lnk (273637 bytes) DL Time (34666 bps): < 2 minutes Subj: send list Date: 7/24/2001 9:44:57 AM Eastern Daylight Time From: jtcreacy@home.com (Tanya Creacy) To: adib102684@aol.com File: sendlist.doc.pif (195757 bytes) DL Time (34666 bps): < 1 minute Hi! How are you? I send you this file in order to have your advice See you later. Thanks (this person jtcreacy is the one I know for a fact that has sent email to my email list from my computer. how did they get my email address? I am the only one that uses my computer and this account. I have not open any mail that requires downloading.) Thank you, Angela DiBlasi I will resubscribe to you in a few weeks.
Yes this is a nasty virus,, once you open it it will send it to evryone in your address book. The name is: W32/SirCam@MM (or) SCam32.exe. From what I can understand the subject is: filename(random). The body of the letter sometimes begins with, "Hi! How are you? I send you this file in order to have your advice," (or) This is the file with the information you asked for," (or) (Anything to do with a FILE). Sometimes it is also done in Spanish, so be leary of anything you receive that is done in Spanish Most email software,, allows for rules. I created a rule to delete any message with "Hi! How are you? I send you this file in order to have your advice," Kent
Hello to all. First, I just wanted to say thanks to all of the responses I received to the many posts I have made. Thanks to you all for your help. I wouldn't have gotten this far without you! Next, I'm looking for a Herman Harris born sometime between April and December of 1903 or January and April of 1904. His parents were Neal & Maria Harris (both deceased by 1918) and he had a brother Otis and two sisters, Helen and Marie. He does not seem to fit any of the Herman Harrises that I have found on the S.S. death index so he must have passed prior to making the list. I know nothing more than when he may have been born and some siblings. I would bet though that he was born in the So. part of Illinois i.e. Randolph, Perry, Jackson, etc. counties. If anyone has a Herman Harris in their line that seems to fit the above description, please contact me. Thanks to all..
Our Homes Odd Fellows and Rebekahs were the first fraternal organization to establish homes for our senior members and for orphaned children. Although times have changed, the need for loving care for those who cannot care for themselves continues. Our Homes throughout the North American Continent provide the best care found anywhere. Information about specific IOOF homes is located on the state activities pages. The mandate for Odd Fellows is found on The Sovereign Grand Lodge Seal, "We Command You To Visit The Sick, Relieve The Distressed, Bury The Dead, and Educate The Orphan." This then along with the ideals and precepts of Fraternity and Relief led to the establishment of Homes for the Aged, the Indigent, the Widow and the Orphan. Odd Fellows are governed by the principles of practical wisdom. The strong support the weak, the well nurse the sick, the learned instruct the unlearned and the rich help the poor. The first Odd Fellows Home was founded in 1872 in Pennsylvania. The endowments and cost of operating these early homes ran in the millions and was entirely supported by the membership. Pictures of some of these early homes are preserved in the antique IOOF Home Post Card collection of Marshall D. Kalin. Our homes through the years have provided care to thousands and provided a homelike atmosphere and education to hundreds of orphans. As times have changed so has the concept of care giving. Where once many of the homes were farms and the residents participated in chores and utilized the grounds and crops, this is mostly in the past. This was necessary in the very early days and members throughout the Jurisdiction brought from their own bounty and shared with these brothers and Sisters. An infirmary was a part of the homes for those taken ill earlier. They have been replaced by skilled care nursing facilities controlled by government guidelines and regulations. As times changed, governments became involved in care giving and Homes for the Aged are no longer considered charitable homes. The High Rise, the Cottage and the Apartment type complex of living has replaced the original concept. Many jurisdictions have become involved with remodeling to bring facilities uptodate and to meet the government regulations required to operate in the world of today. Shared financing, by the governments has also made possible many of these new retirement and skilled care nursing facilities. Day Care centers have also become a reality where the young and the aged can come together and learn from each other. The need for care giving has always been a concern of the Odd Fellows and a mandate to be followed. Giving this care in the spirit of Brotherly Love made the Odd Fellow Home Concept even more appealing and we have been recognized for years as leaders in Geriatric Care. After 175 years we are still in the business as we continue to "Relieve the Distressed." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- SGL/IARA Headquarters address: 422 North Trade Street, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27101, e-mail: IOOFSGL@aol.com The Sovereign Grand Lodge: (336) 725-5955, (800) 235-8358, Fax (336) 722-7317 Dr. Bill Bfox@NightOwl.Net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dawn - Tinley Park, IL" <myadopteddad@mcleodusa.net> To: <IL-SOUTHERN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 19, 2001 12:29 AM Subject: Re: [IL-SOUTHERN] The straight scoop! | Hi Bill, thanks for the response.
