She was born Sept. 27, 1911 in Griggsville to the late Harvey Baker and Theresa May Barnett French. She married Donald C. Varner Oct.21, 1944 in Pittsfield and he preceded her in death. She is survived by several nieces, and nephews on her husband's side of the family as well as several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a daughter, Dolores Cox. Mrs. Varner was a graduate of Griggsville High School in Griggsville. She was a waitress for many years for the old Rainbow Restaurant and later at The Bowl both in Pittsfield. In later years, she was employed by the Pike County Supervisor of Assessments in Pittsfield, retiring in 1991. She was an avid bowler and loved the St. Louis Cardinals. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Burial will be in the Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Dolores Cox Nursing Scholarship Fund thru the Pikeland Foundation c/o the funeral home.
