She was born Jan. 7, 1911 in Newberg Township, Pike County to the late Thomas Ball and Daisy Providence Carrell Jobe. She married Harold R. Slight Sept. 28, 1929 and he preceded her in death Oct 2, 1987. Surviving is one son, Richard Slight and wife Wanda of Quincy; two granddaughters, Kay Peters and husband Dean of Quincy and Karen Bernard and husband Joel of Colombia, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, D.J. Bethany, Noble and Landon Peters of Quincy and Zane Glosemeyer of Colombia, Mo.; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Nettie Calvin and twin sisters, Mildred and Margaret who died in infancy in 1921; and four brothers, Fred, Bill, Art, and Johnny Jobe. Minnie attended the old Greenfield School in Pike County During her long life, Minnie has seen many changes. As a child, her family moved to Nebraska, near Hemmings Ford, looking for a better life out where her mother had family. Not finding it there, they returned to Pike County via covered wagon on a trip that took over 3 months. She even took a helicopter ride in 1997. What changes she has seen. Minnie retired from the Brown Shoe Company Plant of Pittsfield in 1972. There she worked sewing shoes, training new personnel, and preparing show samples. She was very active in her later years with the Griggsville Senior Citizens, holding the office of treasurer. Minnie had many hobbies, but really loved to sew and embroider. She helped with a quilt on display at the Skinner House Museum in Griggsville that was part of a nationwide traveling exhibit. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy c/o Airsman-Hires Chapel, Box 341 Griggsville, Il. 62340.
