She was the daughter of James Thomas and Veta C. Houseworth Ellis born Sept. 23, 1922 in Carrollton, Mo. She married Hal Zumwalt June 31, 1943 in Paris, Texas and he proceeded her Aug. 25, 2004. She was a farm wife and operated a Tastie Freeze in California. She was a bookkeeper at the Farmers State Bank in Pittsfield. In her early years Ova was a member at the Detroit Christian Church and later a member of the New Testament Church of Christ, Pittsfield. She was a member of the Pittsfield Business and Professional Women's Club, Pittsfield PTA president, and Silver Tea Ladies Bowling Team. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and family and mushrooming. Her survivors include two sons, Lyndal (Joyce) Zumwalt and Tom (Donna) Zumwalt, both of Pittsfield; one daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Pamela) Van Hecke, Pittsfield; one sister, Mrs. Leora M. Kovarik, Edwardsville; nine grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded by infant sister Betty Ione; four brothers James Thomas Ellis, Charles T. Ellis, Cecil Ellis, David Ellis; and a sister Ann Walston. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield with Daniel Van Hecke and Michael Ten Eyck officiating. Burial will be at the West Cemetery, Pittsfield. Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 4 till 8 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield. Memorials are to the Blessing Hospice or Pittsfield New Testament Church of Christ.
