She was born to Arthur and Gladys Haakenson May 28, 1943 in Bismarck, N.D. She was raised and educated in Bismarck where she graduated from Bismarck High School in 1961. Joanne married Don Capps of Rockport Aug. 23, 1963. She loved being a homemaker and a wife and spent much time gardening, sewing and creating a loving home for her family and friends. She embraced her Lord and His teachings at an early age and this was a great influence throughout her life. In the past few years she very much enjoyed being a part of the Red Hat Society and greatly appreciated the friendships she made through the organization. She is survived by her husband, Don; three daughters and their husbands: Marie and Armando Nava of Tucumcari, N.M., Marilyn and Tom Hnizdil of St. Francis, Kan., Susan and Scott Townsend of Ft. Collins, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Christina, Yolanda, David and Sonya Nava, Rachel, Grace, Heather, Brooklyn and Martin Hnizdil, Sierra, Sarina and Savana Townsend; two brothers, Eugene Haakenson and his wife Peggy of Bismarck, N.D., Myron Haakenson of Longmont; one sister and her husband, Marian and Bart Smith of Glendale,Ariz., one sister-in-law and her husband, Norine and Bob Barton of Longmont; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Vernon Haakenson. Memorial Service will be at Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
