Elmo was born Jan. 28, 1922 in Pike County to Alfred and Nina Cooley Waters. He is survived by his wife , Mary Elizabeth Tucker Waters of Pittsfield. They were married Sept. 9, 1944 and enjoyed 63 years together. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Gordon Monahan, of Nebo and granddaughter and her fiancé, Natalie Griffy-Monahan and Kyle Snyders, of Champaign. He is also survived by Michael and Kellie Monahan, Kiralee and Jaz and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lois Waters Williams, Lyndle Waters, and Wilford "Tub" Waters. He graduated from Perry High School. Elmo and Mary lived for many years in Winchester until she retired from teaching. They then retired to the farm near Nebo. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. He farmed many years and loved raising cattle. Elmo loved woodworking, collecting pocket knives , and growing purple flowers. Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, from 4-6 p.m. July 23 at the Airsman Hires funeral home in Pittsfield. A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at the funeral home with family friend, Rev. Jerry Nichols officiating. Interment will be at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to Silver Springs Farm, 10982 423rd Street, Nebo, IL immediately following the service for a luncheon.
