Article Text: George R. Lindsey Sr. 82, of Winchester passed away early Monday morning June 30, 2008, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. He was born December 25, 1925 near Detroit, IL the son of Charles Franklin and Margaret Agnes Dormandy Lindsay. He married Audra I. Bettis September 21, 1944 in Benton, Arkansas. Mr. Lindsey attended Tollgate country school. During World War 2 he served in the US Army as a Military Policeman. He was involved in the battle of Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He worked for IREC for 38 years retiring as the Manager of Member Services in 1988. He was a member of Winchester American Legion having served as Commander; He was involved with the Kiwanis Club, Moose Lodge. He was always will to assist with the annual Burgoo and other community activities. He was a member of St. Marks Church. Surviving is his wife Audra at home, 6 daughters Rosann Lindsey of Winchester, Sharon Kay Porter of Decatu! r, Sue Lindsey of Baylis, Patricia (husband Robb) Layman, of Elkhart, Gloria Brown of Winchester, and Kathy (husband Vern) Pascal of Bluffs, a son George Lindsey Jr. of Winchester, 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren a brother Lindell Lindsay of Pittsfield and his beloved dog “Annie” also survive. Preceding him in death were 2 brothers Charles and Chester, and 4 sisters Emmitt, Frances, Ellen, and Ann. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Thursday July 3, 2008 at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in Winchester City Cemetery were military rites will be conducted. Friends may call after 4 PM Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6 until 8 PM. With a Rosary service at 5:30 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Winchester EMS.
