He was born Jan. 19, 1920 to the late John Ray and Marie (Daigh) Hannant. He married Mary L. Burke June 14, 1947 in the Woodland Church, Fish Hook and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Janet (husband Mike) Straus of Lakeland, Fla. and Debra (husband Carrel) Smith of Griggsville; two sons, Gary (wife Cindy) Hannant of Rushville, and Rick (wife Linda) Hannant of Griggsville; a sister, Donna Yockey, Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jason (wife Meredith) Smith of Alexandria, Va., Misha (husband Thomas) Kurniady of Los Angeles, Calif., Jessica Hannant of Griggsville, Andy Smith (fiancee Ann Carper) of Arlington Heights,, Michael Hannant of Chicago, Joey Hannant of Charleston, S.C., and Michelle Hannant of Aurora ; three great-grandchildren, Emily Dunham, Holden Dunham, and Sinta Kurniady; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Ada Hannant and Jean Reese; and two brothers, Owen Hannant and Gordon Hannant. Mr. Hannant farmed for 40 yrs. southwest of Perry. He attended Dexter School and graduated from Perry High School in 1938. He served in Europe during World War II, was a member of the Perry American Legion and served on the school board of Perry Elementary School. Mr. Hannant enjoyed woodworking after retiring from farming and became well known for his red oak furniture. He sold his products at craft shows and color drives. Mr. Hannant had customers all over the United States and overseas. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville. Burial was in McCord Cemetery in Perry, where graveside military rites were conducted by Perry American Legion Post. Friends called one hour prior to services Saturday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Perry Church of Christ Restoration Project or to the Griggsville Library both c/o Airsman-Hires Chapel Box 341 Griggsville, Il. 62340.
