Article Text: Melvina R. House, 94, of Pittsfield, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the Pittsfield Manor. She was born Feb. 23, 1914 in Witt, to the late Andrew and Naomi Platt Mayer. She married H. Edward House May 11, 1946 in Litchfield, and he survives. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Helen Mayer. Mrs. House was a graduate of Chillicothe Missouri Business College and then employed by the Belleville Illinois Farm Credit System as assistant secretary-treasurer. After her marriage she was employed by the Agricultural Stabilization Service of Pike County. Melvina was a member of the Pittsfield United Methodist Church, and a past member of the Pittsfield Women's Club, Old Orchard County Club, and the Pittsfield Pinochle Group. Having no children, the Pittsfield community became their child, and they were generous supporters of Illini Community Hospital, Pittsfield United Methodist Church, the Pittsfield Community Center and many other charitable organizations. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Illini Hospital or to the Pittsfield United Methodist Church both c/o the funeral home.
