Terry was the son of Charles and M. Elizabeth (Herron) Wintjen, born July 14, 1947 in Maryville, Mo. He attended the Rock Port Schools, graduating in 1965. Upon graduation, he enlisted into the United States Navy and served his country for three years in the naval fighter squad, on the U.S.S. Saratoga, during the Vietnam War. July 2, 1970 he was united in marriage to Mary Roberta King at the United Methodist Church in Rock Port, Mo. Terry was employed with the Missouri State Highway Department in Rock Port, the World Aero Space Center in Quincy, and also as a heavy equipment operator for Continental Cement in Hannibal. Terry was a member of the First Christian Church, Pittsfield, Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port, and Pace International Union- Local 5-0205 also of Hannibal. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and taking nature walks, but he especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandsons. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home in Pittsfield; two sons, Kevin and his wife, Denise, Hannibal, Mo. and Darin and his wife Shelley, Griggsville; four grandsons, Austin, Dustin, D. J. and Stone Wintjen; his mother M. Elizabeth Wintjen, Rock Port, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Terry was preceded in death by his father, Charlie and one grandson, Chance Wintjen. Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, at the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port. Interment followed at the Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port. The family received friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the First Lutheran prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to the Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port. Military rites are under the auspices of Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port. Services are under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
