Mrs. Hoos was born Jan. 29, 1914, in Edgewater Park, N. J., the only child of the late Charles A and Matilda Christie Nixon. She attended school in Burlington, N.J., and then moved to Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1931. She married G. Earl Hoos Aug. 13, 1932. For most of their married life, they lived on a farm northwest of Pittsfield in the Sunnyhill neighborhood. When Mr. Hoos retired, they moved to 306 East Washington in Pittsfield. He passed away in their home Aug. 11, 1988. Mrs. Hoos was one of the first patients in Illini Community Hospital and then became a volunteer there for many years. She enjoyed playing the piano, doing needlework, and spending time with friends and her neighboring children. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Quincy. Survivors include her cousin, Dr. Elizabeth Koppel of Hendersonville, N. C.; great nieces, Jeanna Rhoulhac of West Hollywood, Fla. and Teresa Easley of Nevada; great nephew, James Duerr of California; three great-great nephews, Anthony Fortes, and Darren and Gregory Rhoulhac of Florida; and her neighbors since 1975, Ray and Judy Davenport and their children, Kami, Karin, Christopher, Craig, and Creighton. Mrs. Hoos was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 2, at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Burial was in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to services on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Quincy Seventh Day Adventist Church or to the Church School in Quincy. Pallbearers were Ray Davenport, Floyd Pursley, Christopher Davenport, Dr. Craig Davenport, and Creighton Davenport.
