He was born July 4, 1926, at the home of his grandparents, Ed and Mary Niemeyer in East Hannibal to Paul and Mildred Niemeyer McMullen. He married Mary Collins in November of 1953 and she preceded him in 2005. After being discharged from the military in 1947 Mr. McMullen went on to farming and worked as a carpenter for Carpenter Local #189 in Quincy. He raised horses and cattle and enjoyed restoring his model 70 John Deere tractor. Dick was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Hannibal, Mo. and loved square dancing, blue grass music and watching westerns on TV. Survivors of his family include a daughter, Paula Elledge of Louisiana, Mo.; two grandsons; Michael McMullen of Warrenton, Mo. and Ryan Elledge, of St. Peters, Mo.; two great-grandsons, Dylan Elledge and Issac McMullen; a sister, Mary Riester of Belleville; two nieces, Teresa Barfield and Susan Riester; and two nephews, Tony McMullen and Dwayne Brown. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald W. "Mac" McMullen in 2007 and a brother, Robert McMullen. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 1, at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with Rev. Patsy Kelly officiating. Visitation was from 4-8 PM, Friday at the funeral chapel. Burial was at the Samuel Taylor Cemetery near Rockport following the services. Memorials are suggested to the Samuel Taylor Cemetery.
