Article Text: PITTSFIELD, Ill. Gerald L. Schmidt, 86, of Pittsfield died at 3:21 p.m. Sunday (May 4, 2008) in Illini Community Hospital emergency room in Pittsfield. Born May 12, 1921, on the home farm northwest of Barry, he was a son of Glen and Clara (Tittsworth) Schmidt. He married Rosalie Schmidt on July 15, 1982, in Effingham. She died Sept. 9, 2006. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Philippines and the Pacific Theatre. He was a longtime Pike County resident. Gerald enjoyed fishing, country western shows and hunting. Survivors include one son, Steve Schmidt of Pittsfield; one daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Ellen) Sheppard of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Stephen Schmidt, Dana Schmidt, Kim (Schmidt) Irvin and her husband, Joe, all of New Canton and James Sheppard, Sara Sheppard and Laura DeCastro and her husband, Josie, all of Nashville; eight great grandchildren; one brother, John Schmidt and his wife, Virginia, of Quincy; two sisters, Mrs. Russell (Carrie) Schmalshof! Askew of Quincy and Barbara Schmidt, of Quincy; four nieces; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a brother, Frank A. Schmidt; and a daughterin- law, Marge Schmidt. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday in the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Barry. VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. MEMORIALS: Barry Community Care Center Activity Fund.
