He was born Dec. 15, 1923 in Chicago, the only son of Fred and Annette Schleis Daniels. His father died when he was seven years old, and his mother died in 1947. He also was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Mame Daniels of Griggsville. Norm was also the nephew of Griggsville residents, the late Frank and Ruth Birch and Ray and Estella Daniels. Surviving are a sister, Nancy Carr of Wichita, Kan; along with one niece, two nephews, and numerous cousins. Norm was a graduate of Parker High School in Chicago and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy from 1942-1945. He was a 2nd Class Signalman and veteran of the Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns. Norm had many jobs throughout his life. Many of his years were spent as an electrician. He loved target hunting with friends and loading his own ammunition. Although he had a gruff side, Norm also showed a very gentle side nurturing his cats. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the Griggsville Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by Griggsville American Legion Post. There was no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Pike County Animal Shelter or to the Griggsville Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com.
