Article Text: Helen M. Robinson, 79, of Griggsville died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at her residence in Griggsville. She was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Pittsfield, to Jesse Hamer and Coy Emily Doyle Chaplin. She married James E. "Jack" Robinson June 14, 1944, in Winchester, and he survives. Mrs. Robinson was employed at the Mills Bakery in Pittsfield; the Singing Hills and Ke-La-Su at Florence; the Perry Wagon Wheel in Perry and the Dari-Delite in Detroit where she made homemade pies. In her childhood she attended the Milton Methodist Church and she was baptized at the Detroit Christian Church. She made quilts for her grandchildren, great grandchildren, neighbors and friends. She enjoyed family get togethers on Father's Days, Birthdays, the annual Chaplin Thanksgiving dinner, reunions (Robinson and Chaplin) in August. She loved her flower garden, canning her vegetables, keeping a diary, going to basketball games and her grandson's tennis matches. She also loved cooking for her family. Survivors include her husband, Jack Robinson of Griggsville; two sons, Tom (Debbie) Robinson of Pittsfield and Gary Robinson of Griggsville; two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Kay Robinson of Griggsville and Mrs. Jeanne (Jim) French of Munster, Ind.; four brothers, Billy Joe Chaplin (Carol) Chaplin of Hannibal, Mo., Lyndle Gene (Dee) Chaplin of Kinderhook, Jesse Dale (Judy) Chaplin of Plainville and Danny K. (Peggy) Chaplin of St. Charles, Mo.; five sisters, Mrs. Wanda Mae (Milo) Smith of Pittsfield, Mrs. Bernice (Buster) Klinefelter of Pittsfield, Mrs. Jenny Helms (friend, Dick Hayes) of Doniphan, Mo., Mrs. Karen (Bruce) Fowler of Pittsfield and Mrs. Grace Ann (Max) Coppess of Stanwood, Iowa; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Hamer Chaplin in 2005. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Brother Jerry Edison officiating. Burial was at the Bethel Cemetery near Griggsville, . A dinner will be held after the services at the Detroit Town Hall, Detroit. "Bill" Article Text: William C. "Bill" Horman, 82, of Hardin, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008 at St. Louis University Hospital. The retired barber was a World War II Army veteran and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. He served as Hardin Village trustee until 1952, then was elected mayor of Hardin in 1974, and was active until the time of his death. He was a member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church, past commander of the American Legion Post 636 and the Lions Club, all in Hardin. Born Dec. 20, 1925 in Deer Plain, he was the son of the late William B. and Golda G. (Eichhorn) Horman. He married Daisy L. Eudy April 10, 1948 in Alton and she died Aug. 20, 2005. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Nancy Horman of Hardin; two daughters and one son-in-law, JoAnn and Jerry Rose of Hardin and Betty Meyer of Golden Eagle; a sister, Ruth Bowles of North Carolina; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Bick; a granddaughter, Missy Bick. Visitation was held Sunday at Hanks-Gress Funeral Home in Hardin. The funeral was conducted Monday, Jan. 28, 2008 at St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Hardin with Rev. Bill Kessler officiating. Burial was in St. Norbert's Cemetery in Hardin. She is survived by her husband, Don; three daughters and their husbands: Marie and Armando Nava of Tucumcari, N.M., Marilyn and Tom Hnizdil of St. Francis, Kan., Susan and Scott Townsend of Ft. Collins, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Christina, Yolanda, David and Sonya Nava, Rachel, Grace, Heather, Brooklyn and Martin Hnizdil, Sierra, Sarina and Savana Townsend; two brothers, Eugene Haakenson and his wife Peggy of Bismarck, N.D., Myron Haakenson of Longmont; one sister and her husband, Marian and Bart Smith of Glendale,Ariz., one sister-in-law and her husband, Norine and Bob Barton of Longmont; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She attended the Detroit Christian Church and loved to raise chickens, gardening and cooking, reading, T.V. game shows and family, She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. June Johnson, Griggsville, Mrs. Jim (Karen) Brown, Pittsfield and Mrs. Kathryn Penstone, Pittsfield; and a daughter-in-law Mrs. John Mclntire, New Salem; eight grandsons and two granddaughters, three great grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and six step great-great grandchildren. In her early years Ova was a member at the Detroit Christian Church and later a member of the New Testament Church of Christ, Pittsfield. She was a member of the Pittsfield Business and Professional Women's Club, Pittsfield PTA president, and Silver Tea Ladies Bowling Team. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and family and mushrooming. Her survivors include two sons, Lyndal (Joyce) Zumwalt and Tom (Donna) Zumwalt, both of Pittsfield; one daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Pamela) Van Hecke, Pittsfield; one sister, Mrs. Leora M. Kovarik, Edwardsville; nine grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded by infant sister Betty Ione; four brothers James Thomas Ellis, Charles T. Ellis, Cecil Ellis, David Ellis; and a sister Ann Walston. She was born Nov. 23, 1935 in Griggsville to the late Joseph W. and Vada E. Fowler Crook. She married William Rex Smith in 1951 and later married Ken Reid who survives in Albuquerque. Also surviving is a daughter, Annette M. Ormond and husband Mike of Cartersville, Ga.; five sons, William B. and wife Judi of White, Ga., Monty R. Smith of Calhoun, Ga., Daniel L. Smith and wife Lisa of Quincy, Timothy A. Smith and wife Barbara of Rome, Ga., and Tony Smith and wife Tara of Baylis; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Murphy of Bluffs; two brothers, Charles Crook and wife Ann of Rushville, and Lawrence A. (Bud) Crook of Quincy, Il.; and numerous nieces and nephews; cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dora Mae Crook Peas; and two brothers, Harry Crook and Jesse L. Crook. Charlotte enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, cooking, and watching birds. Private services were held in Georgia. He was born Jan. 15, 1932 in Hannibal, Mo. to Eugene and Helen Kendrick Wendorff. He married Donna Korsmeyer Jan. 12, 1958. He is survived by his wife Donna of Springfield; and two sons, Jeffrey Wendorff of Tampa, and Kris (Jackie) Wendorff of Springfield. Mr. Wendorff worked for the State of Illinois for 20 years retiring as Deputy Director of the Illinois Department of Revenue. He then was chosen for the Treasury Department Senior Executive program and served as a director for the IRS. He had graduated from Illinois College in Jacksonville with a Bachelors Degree. He and his wife were residents of Pike County for some time. He was a member of the Shambolee Golf Club and American Legion of Petersburg. He was a veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 26, at 11 am at the Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. Duwayne Reichart and Rev. Dan Roseberry will be officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the memorial service. Cremation rites have been accorded. Briggs Obituary Article Text: Published THE DAILY REGISTER-MIAL 25 MAR 1933 Galesburg, Knox County, Illinois Milton A. Briggs, C. B. and Q. switchman who died in St. Mary's hospital Friday night, expired from a ruptured broncus in his right lung, caused by an accident while at work, a coroner's jury reported to Dr. G. S. Bower, coroner, at an inquest in the Kimber and West mortuary Saturday afternoon. In its findings, the jury stated that Mr. Briggs jumped from the freight depot platform to the footboard of a locamotive standing still, and received a strain in his left side. After his death, Drs. E.B. Grogan and Croslar Bower conducted a post mortem examination, and found Mr. Briggs' right lung collapsed. Witnesses at the inquest were Robert W. Briggs, 501 Fifer street, a son; D.H. Cleary,481 East Third, engineer on the train; and Dr.Grogan. Testimony showed that Mr. Briggs received his injury when he leaped from the platform to line up drawbars on cars being coupled at the freight house. Mr. Briggs, familiarly known as "Jocko," was one of the best known railroad men in town. It was his duty to switch for the two evening trains arriving at 10 o'clock, and there was never a slip-up in his work. Skillfully he helped to make up the west-bound trains, and they were separated and started off in a few minutes. Funeral rites were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the Kimber and West chapel, in charge of the Rev. W. Harvey Young. David Swedenberg and Arvid Erlandson sang. Burial was in Memorial Park. Casket bearers were T.M. Killeen, Ed Mower, Frank Palm, J.F.
