Billy enjoyed golfing, woodworking, gardening and spending time with his grandkids. Article Text: Hugh A. Hurt, 93, of Barry, died Tuesday Feb. 5, 2008, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born in Barry Jan. 23, 1915, to Leon J. and Mary Katherine Richards Hurt. He married Nadine Bogan Dec. 26, 1960 at the Barry Methodist Church. Hugh graduated from Barry High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Agriculture Degree from the University of Illinois in 1937. Hugh was a decorated veteran, making the Army his career for over 17 years. He was at the Battle of the Bulge during the WW II, and earned over a dozen medals during his career including a Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 bronze service stars. Hugh was also a member of a special task force that tested the nitrogen bomb. After his long career in the Army, Hugh was a grain and livestock farmer on the home place near Barry. He was a charter member for John Wood Community College Board of Trustee's and served the board seven years. He was a 50 year Legion Member at the Barry American Legion Post 222, and a member of the Barry United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Nadine, of Barry; two sons, Randy (Jeane) Hurt of Barry and Doug Hurt of Columbia, Md.; three daughters, Lori Hurt of Pittsfield, Ann Defranceaux of Hallandale, Fla. and Linda Andrieux of Paris, France; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and one brother Clay Hurt of Spanaway, Wash. Hugh was preceded by a son, Robert Hurt; a grandson, Michael Defranceaux; two brothers, Richard and William Hurt; and a sister Mary Lee Hurt. Graveside services were held Friday, Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry with Dr. Greg Maize officiating. Military Rites were conducted by the Barry American Legion Post 222. There was no visitation or formal services; however, friends were invited to the graveside service. Memorials may be left to the Barry Fire Department or The Barry American Legion Post 222. She was also a member of Pi Lambda Theta and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was Past-President of The Retired Teachers of Peoria. Born July 25, 1932 in Pike County to Lowell and Sylvina (Tipsword) Guthrie, he married Verda L. Young April 29, 1956 at Pleasant Hill. Surviving are three daughters, Cynthia K. (Terry) Bratcher, Vickie K. (Robert) Pickerill and Sheryle L. Fernandez, all of Pekin; one son, Rick Guthrie of East Alton; one step-daughter, Ella Printy of Pekin; two step-sons, Richard (Brenda) Trout of Delavan and Michael (Regina) Trout of San Jose; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Phyllis ("Cotton") Daniels of Hartford, Wanda Stover of Gilbert, Arizona and Joyce Smith of East Alton; one brother, Danny (Mary) Guthrie of Pearl and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and two brothers. Irvin served in the United States Navy from Aug. 23, 1950 to June 22, 1954. He worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 1987 from parts distribution in Morton. Irvin liked to hunt and fish and was a longtime member of a hunting and fishing club in Victoria. He also formerly enjoyed playing baseball. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. His memorial service was at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Terry C. Edele and Rev. July Doyle officiated. Visitation was one hour before the service Saturday at the church. Cremation will be accorded. Edwards Clark-Bryan, 85, of Rosewood Care, East Peoria, died Wednesday night at 10:15 p.m., January 30, 2008, at the Care Center where she had lived for the past three years. She was born May 8, 1922 in Pike County to Arthur J. and Ida Faye Woodward Edwards in New Salem. Lois was educated and graduated from the New Salem High School and was a member at the Methodist Church in New Salem. She married Ellsworth "Bud" Clark of Griggsville and Alton in 1941. Two children from this union; Jack L. Clark and a daughter Sharon Kay Clark (Hobbs) Shepard. May 25, 1943 "Bud" was in a truck/car accident in which he was killed. Jack turned one July 20th and Kay was born July 23, 1943. In 1952 Lois married William J. Bryan in Peoria. He died Jan. 18, 2005. Lois worked at various restaurants for 25 years as a waitress, After her marriage to James Bryan; Jack remained living with his paternal grandparents. In earlier times Lois and Jim loved to go fishing, they had a spot out side of St. David, IL where they loved to go. On their vacations they would go to Minnesota and Wisconsin to fish. Preceding her in death are her parents, three sisters, Vivian O'Donnell, Carolyn Claus, Jeannie Hildreth and one brother Bob Edwards. Lois leaves one brother, Glen Edwards of Mt. Sterling; her children, Jack (Peggy) Clark of Old Hickory, Tenn; Kay (Kent) Shepard of Chambersburg; and one step-sister Betty June Bryan (Ernie) Rech of East Peoria; eight grandchildren, LeAn Woeiner of Texas, Rene Clark of St. Louis, Mo and Tony Clark of Atlanta, Ga., Kevin (Kathy) Shepard of Waverly, Kim (Todd) Shelly of Springfield, Kris (Rebecca)Shepard of Albuquerque, NM and Kory of Macomb and step-grandson; Artie Lovell of Iowa; seven great-grand-children. Several nieces and nephews survive. Services were held Monday, Feb. 4 with visitation one hour prior to services. Sister Rosa Madonna officiated at the service. Lois loved her and they had a wonderful friendship from when Lois was at St. Joseph Home. The whole family loves Sister Rosa Madonna and she made everything tolerable. Burial was in the Swan Lake Memory Garden in Peoria beside her husband, Jim. The Valley Funeral and Cremation service, 201 N. MacArthur Highway, in Peoria. Article Text: Donald H. Liehr, 75, of Del Rio, Texas died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at the Veteran's Hospital in Kerrville, Texas. He was born Feb. 5,1933 in Perry to Harry and Helen Walker Liehr, who preceded him in death. He married Maria Del S. Sept. 21,1958 and she survives. Donald graduated from Perry High School in 1951 and joined the Air Force where he served his country for 21 years receiving many honors and medals. After his retirement from the service he lived in Perry for several years before moving to Del Rio, Texas in 1980. He is survived by four children, Gary and wife Joni of Versailles, Lee, formally of Perry, Judy Robertson and husband Lynn of Del Rio, and Raymond of Austin, Texas; granddaughter, Hailey Liehr; grandsons, Gary Jr. and Josh Liehr; three brothers, Gene, Roger and Richard, all of Perry and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m. at G.W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Del Rio with interment at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery with full Military Rites done by the United States Air Force. She is survived by one son, Edgar (wife, Rachel) Lockard of Loveland, CO; two daughters, Jane (husband, Harley) Kesselring of rural Ashland and Mary (husband, Ora) Ruble of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters. Mrs. Lockard was the bookkeeper for the family business, Lockard Implement Co. in Ashland for many years. She believed in and followed the teachings of Jesus. She loved flowers and was a wonderful cook. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Ashland Cemetery. Article Text: Terrill T. Belford, 86, of Pittsfield, died Wednesday, Feb.13, 2008, at Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal, Mo. He was born Jan. 6, 1922 in Pittsfield to Thomas and Lucille Saylor Belford. He married Maudine May Chamberlain Dec. 16, 1944, in Jacksonville, and she preceded him in death May 19, 2003. He was a self-employed petroleum jobber for DX Oil Company and Sonoco Oil Company. He also worked for O.B. Dell and Sons. He was a member of the Pittsfield First Christian Church where he served as a deacon and elder of the church. Mr. Belford was a member of the Pittsfield American Legion Post 152, Pittsfield Masonic Lodge 790 AF & AM, Quincy Consistory, and the Pittsfield Dance Club. He was a St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Philly's Baseball fan. He enjoyed attending his son and grandchildren's sporting events. In addition, Mr. Belford served 12 years on the Pike County Board and coached numerous baseball teams from Little League to Legion ball. Mr. Belford served in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman. Survivors include one son, Tim (Linda) Belford of Pittsfield; two grandchildren, Brandon (Carrie) Belford of Highland and Brooke Belford of St. Charles, Mo.; a great-grandchild, Easton Belford of Highland; a brother, Gene Belford of Pittsfield; and several nieces and nephews. Terrill Belford was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Belford, and three sisters, Marguerite Capps, Leta Dell and Anna Mae Gerard. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield with Michael Ten Eyck officiating. Burial was at the West Cemetery in Pittsfield. She was born Jan. 7, 1911 in Newberg Township, Pike County to the late Thomas Ball and Daisy Providence Carrell Jobe. She married Harold R. Slight Sept. 28, 1929 and he preceded her in death Oct 2, 1987. Surviving is one son, Richard Slight and wife Wanda of Quincy; two granddaughters, Kay Peters and husband Dean of Quincy and Karen Bernard and husband Joel of Colombia, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, D.J. Bethany, Noble and Landon Peters of Quincy and Zane Glosemeyer of Colombia, Mo.; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Nettie Calvin and twin sisters, Mildred and Margaret who died in infancy in 1921; and four brothers, Fred, Bill, Art, and Johnny Jobe. Minnie attended the old Greenfield School in Pike County During her long life, Minnie has seen many changes. As a child, her family moved to Nebraska, near Hemmings Ford, looking for a better life out where her mother had family. Not finding it there, they returned to Pike County via covered wagon on a trip that took over 3 months. She even took a helicopter ride in 1997. What changes she has seen. Minnie retired from the Brown Shoe Company Plant of Pittsfield in 1972. There she worked sewing shoes, training new personnel, and preparing show samples. She was very active in her later years with the Griggsville Senior Citizens, holding the office of treasurer. Minnie had many hobbies, but really loved to sew and embroider. She helped with a quilt on display at the Skinner House Museum in Griggsville that was part of a nationwide traveling exhibit. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. She worked as a secretary and when she lived in Springfield she worked for the State of Illinois as a secretary in the Mental Health Dept.
