Deceased in early life was a printer, but removed from Lexington, Ky., his birthplace, to this city in 1831, and for many years engaged in merchantile pursuits. His first wife was a sister of the late Joseph and M.H. Cassell, and his surviving wife is a sister of Messrs. Benj. and John Pyatt. The funeral services will be conducted at the residence on south East street, at 2 o'clock on Sunday, by Eld. J.W. Allen. She attended Pleasant Grove County School, and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1936. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking. Dean Article Text: Dr. H. Dean Artman, 81, of Pittsfield died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. H. Dean Artman was born May 26, 1926 in Detroit, Mich., to Henry Ferdinand Artman and Cornelia Randa Artman, and was raised in the Detroit suburb of Huntington Woods. Immediately following his graduation from Royal Oak High School in 1944, he joined the US Navy and received training in the operation and maintenance of boilers at Naval Station Great Lakes and the Philadelphia Navy Yard. He was subsequently assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Franklin and was aboard when she was attacked on 19 March 1945, leaving her the most severely damaged ship to subsequently make port under her own power in World War II. Following his rescue by the USS Hunt, he served the remainder of the war on destroyers. After the war, he received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Northern Illinois College of Optometry in September of 1949 and practiced optometry in the Chicago area and in Kewanee before settling in Pittsfield in early 1955. Feb.13, 1956, he married Cornelia Green Graham in Effingham and she predeceased him Feb. 8, 1984. He married Arliss Tucker Godfrey Jan.9, 1987 in Pittsfield and she survives. Dr. Artman examined eyes and prescribed glasses in Pittsfield from his arrival until he retired in the early 1990's. He volunteered extensively for the Pittsfield Lions Club for many years. His main avocations were golf, boating, and reading and he was still playing golf as recently as November, 2007. He was a founding member of Old Orchard County Club in Pittsfield and had been a member of the Con Trios Yacht Club and in the St. Louis area. He also enjoyed traveling with Arliss following his retirement. He is survived by one son, Eric, of Tiburon, Calif.; four stepdaughters, Barbee Swofford (Ken) of Pacific Grove, Calif., Linda Smith (Richard) of Traverse City, Mich., Susan Moses (Michael) of Chicago and Joan Benz (Don) of Payson; 12 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 and services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, both at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Rev. Linda Peyla officiated. Burial was at the West Cemetery in Pittsfield with military graveside rites by the Pittsfield American Legion Post 152. There was a lunch following the services at the United Methodist Church in the Orr Hall. Those wishing to send contributions in lieu of flowers may donate to the Pittsfield Lion's Club in furtherance of their assistance to those with vision problems. He was born May 20, 1943 in Winchester to the late James Howard and Daisy Bratsch McDade. He married Carolyn Ann Daniels Jan. 21, 1964 in Winchester. She preceded him in death Dec. 8, 1999. He married Linda Marquez Daniels June 10, 2000 in Winchester, and she survives at home. Also surviving are his three sons, Raymond (wife Connie) McDade Jr. of Sikeston, Mo., James E. (wife Tracy) McDade of Barry and Harold (wife Lisa) McDade of Jacksonville; two step daughters, Lisa Daniels and Jenny (husband Carter) McEuen, both of Pearl; and 11 grandchildren, Jamie, Raymond III, Earl, Daisy, Matt, Justin, Courtney, Will, Andrew, Austin and Hunter. Also preceding him in death were two infant sisters. Mr. McDade attended Winchester schools; he was trained as a Combat Engineer in the US Army as a Specialist 5 in Germany. He was employed with Freesen Inc. retiring after 31 years as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was a member of the Operating Engineers local 965. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed watching football, NASCAR, and going to the rodeo. He also liked to fish and work in his yard and garden. He was especially fond of spending time with his grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 am today, Wednesday Feb. 27, at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be in Green Pond Cemetery near Pearl where military rites will be conducted. She was born July 29, 1925 in Hartford to William C. and Bessie N. Rhodes McCann. She graduated from Nebo High School in 1943. She married Bruce B. Boren of Nebo in Franklin, Ind. Aug. 19, 1944 and they became the parents of three sons, Michael Bruce, Phillip Mark and William Thomas. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked part time in the Boren and Son grocery and dry goods stores for many years, until retiring in 1992. She loved taking care of her home and spending time with family and friends. She was a faithful member of the Nebo Church of Christ for many years, and taught children in Sunday School. Skeet love to sing and enjoyed making people laugh. Her survivors include her husband of 63 years, her sons, Michael (wife Julie) of Pittsfield, Mark of Nebo, and Bill (wife Mona) of Quincy; a brother, Basil McCann and a sister, Maurina Boren, both of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Jennifer (husband Travis) Miller, Justin Boren, Angela Boren, Zachary Boren, Braxton Boren and Spencer Boren; and three step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Leonard, Berdell and Bill McCann and by a sister, Imogene Laux. Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. at the Nebo Church of Christ conducted by Bro. Wilson Ramsey. Visitation was at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services Sunday, with burial following at Greenpond Cemetery, south of Milton. Mrs. Varner was a graduate of Griggsville High School in Griggsville. She was a waitress for many years for the old Rainbow Restaurant and later at The Bowl both in Pittsfield. In later years, she was employed by the Pike County Supervisor of Assessments in Pittsfield, retiring in 1991. She was an avid bowler and loved the St. Louis Cardinals. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Burial will be in the Pittsfield West Cemetery. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Paul; a half brother, Bill; and one sister, Jean. He was retired from Dyno-Nobel of Louisiana, Mo. where he worked as a Mill Right. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a Cardinal baseball enthusiast who enjoyed both the game as well as collecting cards. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25 at the funeral home. Burial was in the Shearer Cemetery in New Canton with military rites by Barry American Legion Post 222. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruby, a brother, Warren Duff of Pittsfield and a sister, Katherine Offenbacher of Pittsfield. Frank served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked as a janitor for Woodrow Wilson Grade School in East Peoria. Frank was a 52-year member of the Illinois Masonic Lodge #263. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 14, at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington, where Masonic Rites will be accorded. Visitation was held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Graveside services were at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. ALLISON, 989 East South stree, died at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning in Galesburg Cottage hospital of typhoid fever. The daughter of Ananias and Julia GOLDSMITH BENTLEY, she was born June 5, 1878, in Lincoln, Ill. Shere was married there to Ezra J. ALLISON on February 28, 1906. The family resided in Alpha for several years, where Mrs. ALLISON was a faithful member of the Methodist church. In the fall of 1929 the ALLISONs moved to Galesburg. In January, 1931, she became a member of the East Main street Congretional church, and in the present year she was serving as deaconess. Mrs. ALLISON is survived by her husband and five children, Mrs.Irene MCAFEE of Lincoln, Mrs. Ethel SINGLETON, Mildred, Robert and Wilmer, all of Galesburg. Three brothers and two sisters survive. Denman, Robert and David BENTLEY of Lincoln, Mrs. Alice Platt of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mrs. Margaret Judd of Galesburg. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon from the Dean Funeral home, and the funeral party will leave immediately afterward for Lincoln. Rites will be held from the Goff Funeral home in Lincoln Saturday afternoon, with burial in Union cemetery there.
