A Man Murders His Wife and Ends His Own Existence. Chicago, April 18 - C. H. SWEENY shot and killed his wife and himself in her apartments at the Granada Hotel this morning. The shooting was the outcome of a quarrel several months ago, which resulted in their separation. The murder and suicide was witnessed by Lindell PHILLIPS, Mrs. SWEENY's six year-old nephew. Mrs. SWEENY was living with her sister and brother-in-law, L. A. PHILLIPS, in the Granada Hotel. Shortly before 3 o'clock SWEENY appeared at the hotel and directed the elevator man to take him to the floor on which PHILLIPS' family lived. Mr. and Mrs. PHILLIPS were not in the house at the time and when SWEENY appeared and knocked at the door, Lindell opened it and admitted him into the rooms. Hearing her husband's voice, Mrs. SWEENY went into the room and, according to the boy's story, SWEENY talked in a loud tone, as if quarreling with his wife, and then drew a revolver and shot and killed her. Without seeing what effect the shot had, he went into another room and ended his own life with a bullet. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ IL-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
