From The Cairo Citizen, Wednesday, April 26, 1989 Nora Morgan Mayes Mrs. Nora Morgan Mayes, 102, resident of Route 1, Villa Ridge, died suddenly Thursday morning of an apparent heart attach at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Austin and Pricilla Robinson, where she made her home. She was born May 29, 1886 in New Madrid, Mo. to the late Susan and Louis Johnson and had lived in the state of Illinois since 1914. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Mound City, where she was a member of the Mothers Board and held many other offices of the church and conference. She was past Worthy Matron of Phyllis Wheatley Chapter No. 136, Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by 2 husbands, Lawson Morgan in 1959 and Webster Mayes in 1971, by 7 children and 15 brothers and sisters. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Pricilla and Austin Robinson of Villa Ridge, 15 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great grandchildren, 6 nieces and 8 nephews, a host of great nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Mayes were conducted Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Pryor Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ in rural Villa Ridge, with the pastor Elder Oscar Burtley, officiating. Interment followed in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge. Friends called Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Pryor Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ. The Hodge Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

I thought this Mayes might have been related to my Nancy Jane Mays born in KY in 1845 and died 1989 in Villa Ridge, Pulaski County, IL married (or common-law) to my grandfather, John L. Daniel, but I see there is no connection. I do appreciate your trying to help me.
