    3. Whether they (teachers, firefighters, etc.) pay into and are covered by social security varies by local and state government and school districts. Some school districts and government entities participate in social security while others have their own retirement systems in place. For more information see the social security website at: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/ Whether an individual paid into social security should have no bearing on whether they are listed in the social security death index. As long as the individual had a social security number, and their death was reported to the social security administration by the proper authorities, then they should be listed with the exceptions noted in the following sites: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ssdi/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/lesson10.htm http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/vital/ssdi/faq.htm Barbara (Saxbury) Freeman http://www.Saxbury.net http://www.NewspaperAbstracts.com http://www.PikeCoILGenWeb.org ----- Original Message ----- From: "Suzanne Schroeder Enlow" <my.chinadolls@verizon.net> To: <IL-OBITS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 30, 2005 9:35 PM Subject: [IL-OBITS] RE: So Sec death index > It is my understanding that teachers & Firefighters ect don't draw on SS > either.
