    3. Melvin T. Roloff of Hoffman Estates for 20 years A funeral Mass for Mr. Melvin T. Roloff, 85, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2515 Palatine Road, Inverness, where he will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Born June 2, 1918, in Fond du Lac, Wis., he died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore, Ill. Entombment will be at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. Mr. Roloff was hired by the Chicago Fire Department on Aug. 1, 1950, and was assigned to Engine 78. He served there until Jan. 1, 1961, when he was promoted to lieutenant. From 1969 to 1971 he was assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau and finished out his years at Engine 7. He retired from the Chicago Fire Department on Oct. 20, 1976. Following his retirement, he was hired by the Hoffman Estates Fire Department, where he set up their fire prevention bureau. He retired from the Hoffman Estates Fire Department in 1986. He served on the Hoffm! an Estates Police & Fire Commission until his death. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the VFW Post #9981 of Arlington Heights. Melvin is survived by his wife, Viola Roloff (nee Gierman); his daughters Patricia (the late John) Antonucci and Barbara (Robert) Haines; his grandchildren Anthony (Michelle) Antonucci and Daniel (Melanie) Haines; his great-grandchildren, Douglas and Joseph Antonucci and Sydney Haines; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 910 W. Van Buren, Chicago, IL 60607 or to the Hoffman Estates Professional Firefighters Association, 1900 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates, IL 60195.
