I will have to check my Great Uncle Irving Kollings photos again next time I am in AH. I believe he had some photos of this site...we were trying to figure out what it was this past weekend...looked like huge circular fitted openings in the ground and at first I thought it to be a huge sewer project but these openings were facing upwards! He grew up on South State and would have been interested in the NIKE site as his grandparents house (at which he later lived as a young man at 22 South State (built 1869 by Conrad Kolling and son John after moving from SCHAUMBURG) was considered to be relocated across from this site when State was again widened and it was voted down due to concern of that area becoming a slum area.
