Ruby E. Smith of Elgin Funeral Services for Ruby E. Smith, 85, will be held at noon today, at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with the Rev. Sung-Ja Lee Moon officiating. Born March 20, 1918, in Elgin, the daughter of James and Anna Dierschow Ringeisen, she passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Mrs. Smith was a resident of Elgin all her life, and was a graduate of Elgin High School. She was employed by McGraw Electric, Motorola and Grayline Housewares before her retirement. She was also a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Elgin. Ruby is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Pete) Kovacs, of Elgin; her grandchildren, Randy (Tammy) Kovacs, Karen Kovacs, Sharon (Brad) Perry, Julie (Jerry) Fisher, Amy (Mike) Young and Matt Kovacs; her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Lindsay and Lauren Kovacs, Nikki Brand, Deeana Perry, Hayley Fisher, and Madeline and Eric Young; and by her niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, Frances E. "Bud" Smith, in 2002. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of services today, at the funeral home.
