Born March 3, 1938, in Roselle, she died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, in Hoffman Estates. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Joanne was the beloved wife of the late Fred C. Gehrke; loving mother of Michael (Debbie) Gehrke, Sandra Lewicki and Laura Hale; cherished grandmother of Bryan, Jon Michael and Danny Gehrke, Nathan and Luke Lewicki, and Stephanie and Matthew Hale; dear daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn Penkala; fond sister of Kenneth (Donna) Penkala and Ronald (Fran) Penkala; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.
